Oil Light

Got the oil light last night, is it ok to just go to walmart and get a quart of synthetic oil?

It's best to get BMW's 5w 40 or 10w 40 synthetic oil if you can. However, in the case you can't, your owner's manual (BMW) recommends Castrol 5w 40/ 10w 40 synthetic. I had this exact problem last night on my 700 mile hike back to D.C. last night.

Once you buy the oil, I'd only add half a quart first and then check the levels prior to adding anymore. Good luck!

The only oil that you can get from Walmart that is BMW LL-01 approved is Mobil 1 0W-40.

IIRC for top offs any synthetic of the proper viscosity should be "ok", but it's preferred that you try to stick with LL01 oil if you can.
