Electric Razors?

What do you use? Looking to spend maybe $80-$120 unless everything in that range is shit...looking for beard trimmer adjustability mostly as I use razor for clean shaves but do go for the "scruffy" look a lot too...my workplace is quite casual. Anyone got any relevant first hand experience? I saw a Norelco I think it was at Costco and it reminded me

My girlfriend bought me an electric shaver for valentines day. i dropped it and it broke the first time i used it..she didnt have the receipt..lol

I can get a close shave when I want to, I just can't trim effectively when I want to...looking for something that accomplishes both

Electric razors suck. Period. Nothing will come close to a real blade. I always use double edged or single edged razors, a badger brush, and a good shave cream.

For trimming back to that couple days of stubble look any cheap trimmer will be fine. I used to use the $20 con air ones from the supermarket that were beard trimmers. I'd just leave the guard off and go with just the trimmer. One pass was usually enough to leave a whole bunch of stubble at the same length.

I cannot use an electric razor... I've tried a bunch of different kinds, they don't give me a close shave, irritate my neck, and it the end a regular razor and creme is faster.

i use a manual razor for my face when i want a clean shave. i also bought two cheap philips electric trimmers from walgreens - one for my face, one for my pubes. no problems whatsoever, be it when i trim my face for that scruffy look or when i'm trimming the hedges

I use a basic Braun. It's served me well over the last 10 years or so. It's smooth right after a shave but I get stubbles within an hour.

i use gillette fusion, always a good clean shave. hardly ever get irritated skin.

I stopped with the mach 3. Tried one of the ones with more blades at one point because it was a free sample, but it still left me with ingrowns and irritation on my neck. I needed multiple passes to get it smooth, but anything more than one left me irritated. It was a PITA.

I've got an old Ever-ready single edge razor that I used with GEM PTFE coated blades. That thing leaves you tingling after 1 pass. Its probably from the 40's. I mostly use a mix of old Gillettes from the 50's and 60's along with a new Merkur. The double edged razors are cheaper and easier for me.

My skin is far to sensitive for electric razors it seems. I tend to get razor burn very quickly with electric shit.

The art of shaving doesn't make their own gear. Its all rebranded stuff which can be had for much better prices from the original manufactures.

Ive been through the straight razor routine but its a bit much for me. I dont have the time for honing, stropping, etc.

Thanks for the info. I haven't bought a nice straight razor yet, I have a cheap one..Art of Shaving is close so I was looking at their stuff. I'll shop around and see what I come up with.

I wouldn't do it if I were you. Personally. Stropping takes a lot of skill as does honing. A couple bad stropping attempts and you'll need to send the razor back to be rehoned. I did that a whole bunch of times before getting the hang of it. A good strop is expensive. A cheap razor to get started on would be a Wapi.

If you're really serious about it I would suggest picking up a double edged razor first to get a feel for the techinque you'll need. The Merkur HD is a good starting razor and easy to come by. Online or from AOS. A badger brush in the 30-50 range is also a good start. AOS has fine creams. Buy the brush online and save $$, AOS is a ripoff. Dont use the Merkur blades that come with the razor. You'll need to find the right blade for the razor and your face. Trying a few different brands is helpful. If you're really interested let me know.

I experience the opposite. The regular blade has always irritated my skin. Electric is the only way I can go. And mine gets close enough for me.
