E90 320i Vacuum Pump Leak

Hi people,

Has anyone actually done a sucessful fix on a leaking vacuum pump?? Mine is dripping like an egg sandwich lol.

I have found a post on another forum with a howto but when I went to fix it I didnt realise just how much of a B**** it is.

I even bought an extra slim 1/4" ratchet but even that dont fit behind the vacuum pump to undo the 10mm bolts.

Am I doing something wrong or does someone know of another tool that would help do the job. There is literally only like 40mm between the pump and the firewall.

I have the repair kit for the leaking pump so dont really want to spend a small fortune at an Indie getting a new one fitted if this one is salvageable.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers guys

Gaz

Thanks for the reply mate,

I bought a 10mm ratchet spanner and couldnt get it in there to be able to grip the 10mm bolt.

Its frustrating as hell getting to the bolts to get this out lol.

This is the first thing which I had to do on my 320i along with the CCV.

I bought a used Vacuum pump, and repaired it as per the instructions on the other forum.

Took it to my local indy who replaced it. (don't forget the O-seal)
He had to tilt the engine somehow to get it out.

Once the old unit was out, I repaired it as well and sold it.

No problems with mine after one and half year and I assume the same for the one which I sold.

Few things to consider;
-Its pain in the bump if you drop a bolt in that region.
-You can use the small mirror to look at the bolts especially the one at the bottom.
- When the bolts are out, you have to apply good amount of force to get it out and same goes when you try to fit.

Makkan00, thanks for the response.

It's also my first real job on the car lol.

I was actually thinking the same thing in regards to what you said about getting a second hand one and reconditioning it. That's probably gonna be the best way for me to go.

Fleabay here I come lol.
