FMIC is on, he's just doing some final touches. I am curious, half of the fmic is covered by the lower part of the bumper! How will it even increase airflow when half of it is blocked? I have the pre lci front bumper. Was surprised how it firts in there. I'll post pics later.
I will start doing this work myself. I want to learn now that I have more time. I think next year I'll buy a 98 usdm supra and start on that car. 335i with fbo +) turbos will be my daily driver and the supra my weekend warrior. |

You paid 450 for a DCI install, 650 for a DP install and are quoted at 500+ for an IC install? Outrageous. You keep getting ripped off. I could have FLOWN TO CALGARY, with tools, done the work, and flown back for less than that. Don't return to this forum with any more sad stories about how stupid your mechanic is. Your mechanic is brilliant... he knows he has an idiot customer and he's milking you for all you're worth.

YOU...ARE...GETTING....SCREWED Your mechanics are all complete idiots or their smart enough to know you are, or both. How could you possible think that paying $450 to install something that takes 10 minuted was a fair deal.

To answer your original question BMW basically designed the car with the intercooler acting as an oil catch can, so some oil is normal...a catch can will help somewhat but because of the way the pcv system is designed it can actually hurt more things than help and it will only catch oil in the blow by air when not in boost.

$140 an hour? Either you make a lot of money and your time is more valuable than $140 an hour or you're flushing $$$ down the drain by being a wimp and not "taking a chance" at doing the install yourself. For about $50 in tools (or less) you could've done it yourself in 4 hours, saving over $500 in one day. Absurd.

Look guys, apparantly the guy isn't sure of himself when it comes to working on his car. And depending on what it is, a mistake on these cars be expensive, really expensive. Yes he's getting raped on shop cost. But I think he's well aware of that now, there's no point in just giving him hell and insulting him. He's looking for help and came to a place to find it. Its a message board and if you don't want to be bothered by him just don't click on his post.

I was on my BB all day so I now have a chance to type a few things out.
I am not sure if some of you are aware but Canada does charge different rates / fee's for certain things.. We don't have many tuner specific shops in Calgary that are trust worthy. Tunerworks is number1 shop but there prices are outrageous. I was recently quoted 600 bucks for an FMIC install.. I chose to go to another shop which I went today as there rates were much cheaper and when they installed my FMIC for 300 bucks I was happy. 2 other shops quoted me well over 4 - 500.. For exhaust. Not many exhaust shops charge less then 140 an hour.. You may thing I got ripped off for the work I got done but after making some more phone calls and asking around it was pretty reasonable. Its a different storey in Alberta, believe me.. I could of went to a few cheaper places, but those shops are crooked and F* people up more times then not. I did not install these myself as I did not want to come into any hiccups. It's my only car and I require it for work. Yes I will do some more investigating, but my options are grim where I live. I'm sorry for posting threads * this is how much I spent, or I feel I got ripped off etc etc.. I know that causes an uproar on this forum as many owners in the U.S can get much better deals from there shop. To give you an Idea as far as exhaust shops go, I have been to 4 different muffler shops over the years with various different cars. Just installing an aftermarket muffler * Ie Greddy, HKS ETC * cost's about 250+ Nothing has really changed. |

It's a little frustrating.. I have heard everything you guys have told me, but THERE ISNT A SHOP IN THE CITY that charges what you guys get in the U.S... You fly here and try to get your parts installed for the prices quoted on this forum. If you can find a shop you trust, that does good work for that price you can keep my car!... |
