If you go down the route of getting a new/recon turbo yourself and getting a non BMW garage to fit make sure the garage that does the work also replaces the breather filter as per the artical m1bjr linked to, even if it is the newer type that does not have the foam filter as I believe even these can get blocked/cause problems.

Do the Garret turbos fit models with Mistibushi turbos? Just seems the Garret seems more reliable?
