330i owners moving up
hello ive had my baby for about 2 years now and i plan on buying a 335i (N55) coupe 6MT next summer. i have done almost every mod ive wanted to my 330i except wheels. what are your guys opinions on the 2009+ 335i? i want a 6MT so whatever i come across (coupe or sedan) will be my choice. how does the power differ than the N54? i do love the look of the newer 335i better but i was curious to see how well the MT were, is it jerky off the line? i plan on getting CPOed one but im worried about reliability. thanks!

N55 is the 2011 sedan and 2011-2012 coupes. N54 is every other 335i including the 335iS.
Regarding the N54 vs N55, the N54 will be able to make more power with a tune versus the N55. The N55 is more reliable and won't have as many issues, but if you plan to tune you won't make as much power and will need to upgrade your charge pipe. The N54's major issues (Turbo Rattle, whine, HPFP, injectors) are now all covered by an extended warranty that is seperate from the factory/CPO warranty though, so I wouldn't let that steer you away. MT jerkyness? I doin't know of any, but you should be doing the CDV delete right away if you get a manual. |

I have a 330i and a MT 335 coupe. Massive difference between the two and not just the engine. I am talking about sedan vs coupe and also the AT vs MT although the 330 has the ZF tranny which is light years better than the GM in the 328s. Anyway my 335 I just got almost but not quite has the feel of the E46 it replaced. I just feel more comfortable in the e9x coupe than the sedan. The 330i is a great car and the power is fine, the 335 has power in reserve. I am sure that will change once the newness wears off though. MT in the 335 is great, no jerkiness at all and I have not removed the CDV.
