I majored in Finance and Mathematics and with that I had ample opportunity to do pretty much anything within business. Just remember that a MBA isn't a replacement for hard work, I know a lot of people with MBA's that go nowhere because they expect to just be promoted ahead of everyone else. In the end, do something that makes you happy and you enjoy.

I have a BS degree in Physics and I sell BEER!

College Degree != Career

I say stick with the Accounting/CPA degree. You can turn that into so many other careers, it is ridiculous, from small business owner to CFO or even CEO of a company. And, with Sarbanes-Oxley, there will ALWAYS be work available!

Can you specialize in bankruptcy accounting after you get your CPA degree? I expect personal bankruptcies to skyrocket in 2009 and 2010.

Home prices will continue to crash (another 25%) and unemployment rate will reach 10+% by end of the year. Even among the e90post forum members, I've seen number of people having to sell their BMWs because of layoffs, home foreclosures and etc.
