328i Chip

Im kind of in a dilemma right now.
Im debating on weather or not to install a performance chip on my e90 328i.
I've heard that theres a chance it could burn my car's computer. This means that my warranty wont cover it.

Heres the chip,
http://www.performancechipsdirect.com/BMW/3-Series-4Dr/

The stage one adds 35 bhp. Whereas the stage two cost $130 and adds 45 bhp.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

stay safe and enjoy the way your car is...

save up for a intake and exhaust instead

I highly doubt it will give you 45bhp on a 328i IMHO.Maybe more like 10bhp.

i dont think that chip will even do anything, i think all it will do is allow the engine to rev higher, and shift at higher RPM's

Right, I noticed that too.
Im a skeptic myself, so I called them up and everything seamed legit. Im willing to put my car on the dyno machine if I get the chip (just to check out the gains). Im just wondering if its worth it or not...

Have them explain how the chip gives better power AND mpg at the same time!

Power and mpg are good selling points, makes you wonder why BMW can't optimize those own engines. LOL

This mod MIGHT increase torque or horsepower. But why wouldn't BMW do it if it didn't decrease reliability or gas mileage?

Plus this mod COULD damage your engine and/or void your warranty.

I wouldn't do it if it was free.

ask if you can return it for a refund if you aren't happy with the before/after dyno results.

Tell them to pay you 1000 if it does not give even 25hp. If it does pay them 1000. Lets see if they take the challenge.

Don't do it. Like the others said, you'd get better results from an intake/exhaust.

The best thing about this chip is how universal it is. It doesn't matter what year car or what type of car, you always get the identical mpg and hp increases! I clicked on a couple.

looks fake. it organizes chips by chassis, not engine type.

like theres the 3 series 4 door category to choose from, but then they dont let you choose between the 328 and the 335.

if you wanna do it go ahead, but it looks like a scam that could kill your engine and will definitely void your warranty

Conversely, it is so fake, that I doubt it does anything at all so it seems unlikely it would damage your engine!

The fine print says that when you turn the chip part way is when it gives more horsepower and better mpg. It implies that it is doing this at the expense of poorer emissions. I suppose BMW might be able to improve mpg of the engine if it didn't have to worry about the emissions. Of course, if it hurts emissions then it should be illegal.

thats why i said "could". nothing's for sure with this chip unless someone who's installed it told us what it actually does, if it does anything at all
