N53 325i 2007 Extra vacuum pipe ?

The vacuum pump just underneath the Oil filter housing (leaking of course) has a short hose coming vertically out which emerges into an elbow just by the filter cover. The next section is about 47 metres long and does a winding tour of the engine bay to end up providing vacuum to the brake servo. The short section is shown on the diagrams as No 10 part no 116 675 561 93 and is a plain pipe. On my engine it has a small diameter off take just above the pump to which is attached a small bore rubber vacuum pipe. This then heads off under the inlet manifold and disappears into the darkness.

I can find no mention of its existence in the BMW information. Anybody know what it is ?
