First Oil Change

I have a 2013 328i and have just passed 9,000 miles without any indication that service is due. There isn't even a dipstick on the engine and I'm not sure I entirely trust the electronics. In the past I've been a 3,000 mile fanatic for oil changes especially on engine break-in. Should I be getting worried?

Not really as with synthetic oil, the 3k changes are a thing of the distant past. You might review "Condition Based Servicing" in your Service/Warranty manual and also check your dash computer as to when your oil change will be called for (see "Service requirements" in the general manual). While some folks prefer to do an "Interim" change for ca. $100 at a dealer, others have no problem with the CBS schedule which averages about 15k miles or one year, whichever comes first.

using the oil meters on my moms civics, the first oil change happens around 15K-20K kms, the dealer will refuse to do it unless the oil life meter has fallen below 15%.

Any new vehicle with oil life meters are the same, those sensors detect vital information that we could never tell by just looking at the color...

invest in a BT Tool to change your oil change intervals in CBS. See if the dealer will change it for free

its not any different than BMW changing their intervals to "lifetime fluid" for tranny, diff and transfer case once maintenance became free for 4 years. When we had to pay for maintenance ourselves, the service intervals were "required" every 30K miles

That isn't 100% true btw... lubricants and manufacturing technology have improved tremendously over the passed 10 years.
