It controls the Bluetooth antenna but without the antenna attached it has no Bluetooth function.

there is few non-factory solutions which provide factory look and control
dension gateway 500
or factory mulf2-high usb retrofit + aftermarket usb2bluetooth tune2air wma3000
also if you do not want handfree calling it is possible to use bmw ipod interface + tune2air wma1000

track name will be on HU display, it will be possible to mute sound and switch tracks on steering wheel

Welcome everyone. This is my first post on this forum but I already benefited from knowledge on E90post. I'm writing as I have following problem.
I have retrofitted Professional BT/USB head unit to my 2008 E90 some time ago. The HU came from a car without USB option enabled. I was however successful in coding the radio for the USB or that's what I thought. The option is available in the radio menu but I can’t get it to read files from USB stick (formatted to FAT32). It says 'Insert USB' when pressing the button. Cable between HU and port is ok so I think it might be something with coding. Any ideas on what else can I check?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I got the same problem first time i made many thing and finally usb worked
I didn’t knew if the problem from the cable between the radio and the connector, or from the usb itself or from the coding
First dealer have made coding and after that the usb and bluetooth has removed from radio , after that another dealer has made another coding and usb and bluetooth come back but nit working, i made a reset from ediabas , replace cable and connector, replacement usb with light just to see if it is worked , still bluetooth micro not working , i swaped the pins of the micro 1 and 6 ,
I have a link i guess same problem and this link help me abou 90%

Thanks CINE5.

I followed this thread and verified my coding. My RAD2 is coded exactly the same.
However the author of that post didn't get his USB to work. He thought it's due to the Chinese cable. I'm also using fakra HU to USB cable I bought from ebay but seller had a very good feedback on items he is selling.
Are you using genuine USB cable part number 61119129360 in your car?

The USB option appears on my radio with '- -' and says 'Insert USB' when I press the button under.

I have bmw connector 84109237653 so this should be no problem. Cable is connected but it might be faulty or something.

Regarding coding. I don't have the USB or BT options added to car VO only the radio coded. Do I need to add USB option $6FL to the VO?

I have option $663 Professional HU but my car had one before. BT works fine but the new radio was coded for it already, USB was not available when I got it. How did you code yours exactly?

Thanks again for you help here.

I do think it's a mic or wiring issue since you otherwish have good call connectivity.

Try an oem mic with an oem mic retrofit wiring harness (i posted part numbers above) and follow instructions accordingly

I have the new head unit with Bluetooth built in but usb isn’t showing in the menu I’m told it’s a coding thing but I’ve only even used icarly could someone point me to what hardware I need and maybe a coding how to for radio coding the original post said about tricking the car with its build date as the head unit is a 2011 so guessing it’s not a straight forward coding. Cheers guys

check rear side of the headunit if you have white hsd connector
there are headunit which may have bluetooth integrated but not usb

ok
then if you have cable and usb socket connected to that 4 pin in round connector you need to code your radio for usb function
unfortunately all such RAD2 devices are not coded using cheap DCAN cable
only ICOM or OPS

there is plenty topics on radio coding and i think in this topic should posts about that
icom (even those chines copies going for GBP 250-350) are pricey for one time coding job

this is special problem with rad2 and mask units, they are not codable using cheap leads
