I'm about to graduate from Orbital and start using High Speed polishers. I have read all the "How to" write ups and threads on the internet. I will start practicing on an old hood I have from the salvage yard. I just wanted to get a few more tips from all you experienced guys out there before I begin. I purchased the Makita 9227C with the wool and black polishing pad and have most of the Menzerna line products... so if there are any pad/ polish combinations you guys recommend, let me know. Thanks. (ps, i've been using the flex 3401 for about a year now)

manzerna sip on orange ccs at 1600 rpm
manzerna po85rd on blue ccs at 1600 rpm

thats what i use and i have a makita copy, full speed is to much ( makes to much heat) keep it at about a lil les then half speed that should be fine .

You'll find that the foam pads are much harder to use at first than the wools or PFW's because they grip the paint much more. Lots of practice and patience are needed, but once you get the hang of it, the results are worth it

I agree and I found lighter pressure with foam was key when I first started using my circular for both control and reduction of heat build up. You'll get the "feel" with some time in your hands.
