My new V1 mount
I wanted to share a new aftermarket radar mount I purchased for my V1. I found this mount on eBay and contemplated for months on purchasing it as I was not sure how well it would work. Needless to say I decided I would give it a try and I made a best offer at $25.00 which included free shipping and my offer was accepted. Once the mount arrived I had to rewire my already hard wired V1 as the wire was too short to get below the mirror since I had it above the mirror on the right side. After everything was said and done I was pleasantly surprised that it looked pretty good. The suction cup seems to be solid yet I have only had it for a week now so I can’t speak for longevity.
My overall opinion on this is that it now gives a better front and rear line of sight. It is easier to see and press the mute button when in need. It also no longer gets in the way of my mirror and has one suction cup rather than two small ones that you need to get straight when placing it on the windshield. My original V1 mount for both my car and my truck do fall off the windshield every once in a while so I am looking forward to seeing if this stays in place longer. I have included a few pictures with this mount on my car along with the eBay link and direct web page. Let me know what you guys think of this mount. http://www.ebay.com/sch/astronotus88...&_trksid=p3686 or http://www.performancepackage.com/

I had a blend mount in the STi that I traded for my 335, and that was the ultimate solution for the V1 mount. Too bad they aren't made for the Bimmers.
This mount looks interesting. I'm not sure of the value here, as the suction cup base can be had at Pep Boys for $5. Getting away from the OOTB V1 mount may be worth the extra coin though. Thanks for posting up with your experience.

I saw the Blendmount one long ago but at almost $80.00 I could not drop the coin when it came to my Toyota truck. Now $25.00 was more worth the gamble and I am glad I did at this point. They also have one that attached to the neck of the mirror but I am not certain it will work on BMW's either. That is why I attached his eBay/web page links so you can see the different mounts that they have.
Now you mentioned $5.00 for the mount at Pep Boys. I have no experience with that but lets break it down. $5.00 mount, $5.00 shipping/handling and paypal fees this will leave the seller less than $15.00 and this does not include the extra aluminum parts that they made to accomodate these mounts to the base. I would imagine he/she is only making about $10 to $12 dollars then said and done. Much better value then the Bledmount version. Quote:

Blendmount is definitely pricey, esp. compared to this solution, but all of the parts are quality finished aluminum and it totally eliminates suction cups.
I did check out the site for these guys, and the other parts of the mount aside from the base are more sophisticated than what I was able to make out from your pics. I'll definitely pick up at least one of these and give it a shot.

So here are a few pictures taken from their website. This will give you a better idea of what the parts consist of. As you can see they also have one similar to Blendmount with no suction cups but that does not look like an option for our BMW's. For the price it seems more than fair in my opinion.
One thing I forgot to mention is that you will need an allen wrench to tighten up the screws to our base. That is not included, luckily for me I had a set.

Ordered mine from eBay for $25 last night. If it works out in the wife's e91, I may just try a $20 bid for my e92.

I tried a few offers less than $25.00 and it was all declined until I hit $25.00.
I think that is the magic number I hope you like yours as much as I like mine. Based on some of the comments some people like it where others don't. That was expected.

So my mount finally lost suction today and was dangling from the cord when I got to my car. I was wondering how long it was going to be until this day came. I am still pleased as it lasted a long time and I just simply put it back and maybe in 3 months I will need to do it again. I think this mount has done very well and I recommend it to anyone that may be interested.

That's what I don't want to happen. It's only a matter of time with the heat before the suction cup lets go. I have my V1 mounted with this mount. It's a mount I used on my corvette. It mounts to back of mirror. |

I just emailed them & they said it's a locking suction cup. While it's far superior to a normal slap-on suction cup, eventually it'll stop sticking & obviously has a greater chance of falling off if you hit a bump.
Chances are I'm gonna go with the Country Joy Mini-Mount: http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/valentinemount.html It's an all metal construction that uses a circular bolt mount in the tiny gap between the mirror & plastic sensor housing on the windshield. If anyone has this specific mount, please let me know how it is?? I like that a suction cup mount can be moved from car to car without having to breakout a wrench, but I really want something solid installed in my car (especially if it's hardwired) |

The suction cup is a locking type as you suspected. When it is locked down it kind of feels like it will break the windshield if you try pulling it hard enough. It has held up to everything I have put it through. It has only come loose one time as mentioned here. I am sure it will come loose again in a few months but that is not really bad considering how much it comes loose with the dual suction cups.

The one you have pictured does look classy but if I remember correctly they are almost $80.00. The one in the link below I got on a "Make Offer" for $30.00 with free shipping. You can't beat that http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI...E:L:OU:US:1123

I too would have the permanent mounting type on my BMW but as noted above in my situation there is no place to mount it with the high beam assistant sensor.
I will take pics of the new mount I ordered today once it comes in. The mount you mentioned at one point was $79.00 I believe. It looks like they lowered the price, probably because of this company who is selling hundreds of their new mounts. With the mount you have mentioned I think it does look nice however you need to know which mount is needed for your particular vehicle. You may not be able to use it in your next car. Very nice find thiough. Quote:

It's some small-private business making them, and they say the Mini Mount bracket is only a 1/4" thick & should fit (they also have some bullshit return & restocking fee if you order the wrong one). There's a chart that shows all the cars their different mounts are combatible with & there are a few BMWs on there.
I feel that the suction cup mount & plug-in electrical cord is probably the smartest buy long term. Won't have to worry about going from car to car, mirror compatability or making sure I have a power source. I'll take your word that once the suction cup is locked that it's basically impossible for it to come off & place an order when I get home. |

I think you will be happy with the suction cup mount. I can not say it will never fall off as mine did 3 months after sticking it on the windshield but it looks great and stayed on longer than the original suction cups did. I also like that I have it positioned under my mirror which make it easier to see and press the mute button.
It you want a permanent type consider the one I ordered today. It looks like a one size fits all the way it was made. So for me I have the V1 in my both my vehicles hard wired yet it can still come out and be plugged into another car via the cig adapter if needed with the original base and suction cups. If you end up picking one up I am sure you will like it. I hated the original suction cup version. Quote:

Let me know how that fixed mirror mount is.... It was one of the others one's I was considering. I liked that it was compatible with all mirrors widths, but wasn't too sure if it would shake & rattle more than a suction cupped would.
No immediate decision -- Between deciding whether or not to go w/ the suction cup or a fixed mirror mount & whether or not to hardwire my V1, I've got lots of thinking to do. |

I'll update this post in a few days when I get the new mount for the truck. My suction cup mount does not move at all. Seems pretty solid and I would imagine the one on the mirror should be the same if not better.
