UK I-Drive upgrade to Progman v25?

There are quite a few threads on the more US focussed areas discussing our stateside chums getting their I-Drives upgraded to the new Progman v25 standard. This is designed for all I-Drive/professional Nav equipped E90-92s produced prior to March 07.

As I understand it this speeds I Drive up greatly and more specifically solves the problem where the Arrow view map doesn't pop-up with dynamic Nav guidance info when you have set the right hand side display to one of the map views.

Has anyone in the UK had this upgrade carried out? Has your dealer been okay with doing it under warranty? I have my car booked in to look at this on friday but the service rep that I spoke to seemed to know nothing about the new software standard.

My worry is that it's only being rolled out in the US and not here.

Appreciate any feedback!

I spoke recently with my local dealer (Cooper Thames Ditton) and once I told them about the arrow bug they where happy todo the upgrade. I postponed it because 25.02 breaks real time traffic information (which they also acknowledged). We agreed they would call me when 25.04 arrives that fixes this problem.

No idea.

There have been forum posts about 25.02, 25.03 and 25.04 breaking voice commands as well.

I read that as "you get lifetime membership as standard" but may be wrong!

Sorry, My mistake 25.00.05 not 04.

Seems Europe gets some updates sooner than US.

Its free!! You don't pay any membership, the traffic service comes free with every BMW with i-drive. Whoever owns the car gets the benefit of the service

It's not on the e92.

You get it if you order the Bluetooth with Telematics option (£535) or if you want it on it's own you can get it for £285

It's actually quite good the ability to change a radio station whilst viewing the map etc... without having to spend 10 mins going through the menus is great

Thanks for all the info guys - glad to hear that these upgrades have been working out okay for you.

My next challenge is to work out what BMW Assist is and how I get it activated??!

BMW assist seems to be a combined accident/SOS button and also possibly Concierge type service (location based). It is apparently a SIM card built into the car and if you have an accident you press the SOS button and BMW then relay your information/location to the emergency services. It is subscription based after I believe the first 6 months/year. You can also apparently call and say "where's the nearest petrol station" although I'd like someone else to confirm that !

If you have i-drive and bluetooth, you also get voice control and 'telematics'.

Telematics = BMW assist functionality.

I'm pretty sure that the SOS button works even if you don't subscribe to bmw assist.

The first 6 months of BMW assist is free, but I forgot to send of the form. After that I think it is about £60 a year.

If you activate the system you can then speak direct to a switchboard operator and ask any sensible question (e.g for directions). Directions, addresses or phone numbers can be automatically zapped to your navigation system and saved in your address book.

I must get round to setting it up really.

The voice control is a nice option to have, especially if you have a 'fully' compatible bluetooth phone- ie Sony Ericssons (but not all without work properly without a firmware update), Motorolas (same goes for them as well) & the various Windows Mobile 5 handsets with AKU2 firmware (Orange SPV c600 etc).
With such a phone, you can simply just hit the voice button say "Call bofarty" & my car will call Paul all by itself! (assuming you have remembered to turn on the car & phone's BT, paired them up properly & are in signal range)

BMW UK told me that the cost of the annual BMW Assist subscription was somewhere over £200- they wouldn't bother picking up your SOS call for £60!

So...I haven't bothered with it.

All the best.

The £60 sounds familiar.

So how does it 'know' who 'baufarty' is - do you have to teach it ?
