Me E350cdi Avantgarde Estate (I'm getting old!)

Someone asked me to post pics of the big bus a couple of weeks ago, so here there are....

Got a few things to do, going to put some nice AMG wheels on when they come up at the right price, probably these....

And as soon as I don't need the car for a day I will get the windows tinted.

Also, will go for a different style grille and flat bonnet badge.....

I had swapped to an E320cdi estate 2 years ago after 12 years of BMWs, and a lot of BMWs, and totally fell for the big Merc, this new one is taking a little longer to get used to, but the old one was the best all round car I have owned, this one is getting there, slowly.
I think I was expecting it to be much better, it is in many ways, but in other ways the older one was, but it is growing on me.

I have also sold the X1, so BMW'less for the first time in years. Was a big step.

If I didn't have the dog and young lad I would have the E350 coupe tomorrow.
In fact, I would take the C63 coupe on one of the £500 contract hire deals.

Hi can you tell me how you realy feel about the merc.i have had a 350 cdi now for 3 months and cant make up my mind,my previous car was a 335d and keep trying to compare.I only drive mine weekends thats probably part of the probem i dont get around in it enough.there are things i like about the merc, easy to drive comfortable,im 50ish lol and said it was time to die when i bought one, your thoughts would help me make my mind up on things i may have overlooked. However if i do decide to sale i have got a set of brand new 20inch c63 amg wheels and tyres as shown in your picture.

I like it, a lot.
I really wasn't sure about going to Mercedes when I did a couple of years back, and I still had a BMW so it was OK to try it.
I very nearly called the dealer the night before collecting my E320cdi estate to say I wasn't ready for a Merc, but I needed the space and had had the A6 3.2 and the 535d sport touring and thought to hell with it.

I have to say, collecting it I liked it straight away, however, it was when I got to 6 months with it that I realised just how much I liked it.
Normally at 6 months I would be on autotrader looking for the next toy, but I was getting more and more attached to the Merc, I will be honest and say that it never really excited me, but I always enjoyed being in it when I was.
So when I came to replace the E320cdi I was going to go back to BMW and had done a deal on a really well specced up 530d M-Sport Touring, but after driving the 530d realised that I didn't like it anywhere near as much as the Merc.
It took me that to make me realise how good the Mercs were.
I am sure I would love the 530d, but not sure I wouldn't start looking for the next thing shortly after owning it for a while.

My E320cdi was Brabus tuned and that really did improve things, was certainly as quick as my 535d in stock form. I will keep an eye out for another one for the E350 cdi and bag it when it comes up.

Regarding the wheels, I went avantgarde as that is what I had last time and the ride was amazing, well after years in BMWs it would be I guess, so went with it again. However, the W212 is very different to the W211, it is not as comfy but slightly more focused, but I do think that an 18 or maybe a 19" would be OK.
I am not sure if a 20" wheel suits a Merc.
What is it you're not sure about?
The thing I found is I just loved the ride on mien with 17" wheels, and do worry that if I went to 19's or bigger I would loose that, and then maybe not gel with the car as much.
Maybe the 20's are spoiling it for you? Maybe there is sod all difference between your ride and mine on 17's? I don't know.

The 'sports' grill will definitely transform the front for the 'better'.

It's alright I suppose, but bet you can't get a large kitchen bin, toaster (4 piece ), kettle, laptop, bag of shopping, not showing in picture a load of files & paperwork in it...

Thanks for your reply,i am of to sunny devon for a few days now and am going to make up my mind.My local stealer has offered my nearly what i paid for it,seems there are not many 350s around. My main problem is i keep refering back to bmw after owning most of them in the last 12 years except the new M3 v8.My 335 was amazing and had no faults,im down a little on power with the merc but it do make up for it in other ways, and im thinking do i need to go that fast?.I asked about the brabus chip at my local dealer it was a fortune to have fitted and havent made one for the 350 yet!! Like you i doesnt excite me but i do like driving it,perhaps its time to get old.As for the wheels i have taken the 20s back off and put the standard 18s on,as for ride there is little difference to be honest, except you have to watch the potholes.

Wezzie, thanks for that, I may try 19s then, but I will probably go reps and keep these for when I sell it.

There is a Brabus box, the D6S is the one you want, takes it to 313HP.

http://www.brabus.com/en/deliver.php...&filename=W212

I would buy off ebay, far cheaper.
