Peter, can you get your hands on a JB4? I'm sure the BMS guys would love to see what it can do on Map 1 and Map 2, same dyno and same car.
I can create a similar custom map for the JB4. Just let me know.

What would you like ?
If that Cobb dyno was run on stage 2 aggressive map, would be interesting to see what the v401 beta stage 1 aggressive map dyno looks like, I suspect it will be better tuned to a stock car and may yield a better curve (perhaps less peak though).

Also, all this talk about dyno curve/max power is only one aspect, at least as important is the smoothness of delivery/ drive-ability, what are your thoughts on that? The only other person who's given a direct comparison was Raihax.

Cheers.

The Procede uses completely isolated boost control. What I mean by this is that no part of the original DME control logic is utilised. We designed our own boost control system that is optimised for controlling these twin turbos at high boost levels. We spent alot of time getting it to work as well as it does.

Now I am going to be upfront and honest that I do not know exactly the approach for boost control that Cobb uses.... but typically with a flash tune, the OEM DME logic is retained, but the target levels are altered. Therefore (if my assumption is correct) the BMW boost control is running but at higher boost set points. With the Procede, we found that we were not satisfied with the OEM boost control logic, so we changed. Admittedly we had less control over it than Cobb do, so they can get it to dance better than we could. But I suspect it is still not optimal at higher boost levels. It obviously does the trick, but the oscillation is typical of what we experienced previously before we moved to isolated control.

I think he changed the boost target to 14psi (as per adrians post yesterday) to match the cob targets from the look of that last graph, compared to the original graph.

But is this tweak still valid for prolonged engine/turbo health or is it power for power sake just to compare with cobb?

Also, I am fairly stock at the moment but when I get fmic/charge pipe etc installed will the procede adapt or will I have to download more maps to match the mods?

Sorry if its a stupid question.

We have recommended maps that are more conservative than this. This map is more aggressive as it was dialled up to similar boost to the prior Cobb dyno. By definition it puts more load on engine components. Anytime you add power you do... just like running a tune puts more load than stock. To avoid potential issues caused by customers having engine reliability issues we tread a conservative line. Having said that, our fuel in Australia is better than the commonly available 91 (like our 95RON) in alot of the USA. Therefore with good local 98 fuel, you can run on the aggressive side more safely, and I normally run a little more aggressively than the base recommendations when I setup cars.

I suspect that Cobb also take a more conservative approach. Peter tested the Cobb Stage 2 aggressive maps which I believe are not recommended for a standard car. Therefore it would be common if running recommended setup for each tune to run power levels closer to 230-240kW ATW on this dyno.

But for a street car that is rarely wound out at high boost for a long period (like 30 seconds plus of full throttle), I would be happy to run the more aggressive tune Peter has dynoed. I would not do a track day in 35C heat with that setup, but I would do pretty much any street driving and drag racing with that tune. If it was me, I would just set map 1 to a more conservative 11psi up top and use that for hot weather high load use. You can change between maps using the cruise stalk in a few seconds.

If you make changes to mods with the Procede, it is best to load appropriate maps. This literally takes a couple of minutes to do. If you run Autotune maps, then the Procede will automatically adjust and get 90% there without the recommended map, but for the small amount of effort it takes to switch to the recommended map for the setup, I usually recommend to do that.

There are some boost oscilation issue on some of the cobb map on certain ECU ROM.

They are in the process of fixing it.

Seems like a strong car with just a tune!

I'm not sure exactly what Peter's tweaks were. But I suspect they were similar to what we have previously discussed that you were doing. Just more boost up top. Peter will have to comment further.
