Arktis | E91 Journal - Daily Project

A BIG Hello to the Bimmerpost family.

This is my first time actually deciding to post a small build journal of my project daily. So I'll give a quick overview and hopefully you guys will stick around while I repair and add goodies along the way.

About a year ago I had decided to walk away from all my pride and joys and decided to go with a humble Lexus CT200h as a daily driver. Fast forward 1 year; I wanted to lower my insurance payment and get rid of a car payment as well. What BETTER idea then to find another old BMW?! I then went even deeper into the rabbit hole and I decided to save a BMW and I found myself a totaled out E91 from IAAI.

My love for these Bavarian machines is hard habit to kick. I've had 2x E46 ZHP's, E90 M3, i3, F30 340i, 2x E91's.

Now onto my 3rd E91. It appears the previous owner had a date with the sidewalk which ultimately destroyed some suspension bits and a fender.

Primary damage is located on the FR suspension. Bent control arm, destroyed steering rack, bracket on subframe is torn.

I'm curious if the P.O was ever on Bimmerpost, the vehicle has an axle back exhaust and H&R coilovers installed.

Quick specs
2007 328i xDrive
Arktis Metallic
6 Speed Manual transmission
Quite a few broken parts

Here are some preliminary photos while it was at the auction yard.

Here is one component that I replaced.

Found that the steering rack is completely destroyed

Just got my M Sport front bumper painted and shaved the sidemarkers

Thank you CornerGorillaPit

Updates are a bit slow since i am waiting for the parts to actually do the main repairs.

Went to the Yard on Sunday and got myself a black dash + CIC upgrade. Wanted more parts, but the heat was getting to us.

Subframe and steering rack is on the way! Will post progress pics.

All tucked away in the car

Not much updates...as I'm waiting for the last mechanical piece which is the steering rack. UPS delayed twice..first is broken down truck and now a train derailment.

So parts are just gathering up, I can't even park my current daily in there now.

Hopefully I can start some REAL work on it this weekend so she can start to move and get washed from all that auction filth.

But more parts!! Thank you donut_boi for the OEM wheels to get the car rolling on 4 good tires

Found out previous owner removed the front drive shaft.

Needed a new driver side tie rod as the one on my car is seized up and I didn't want to re-use it. All under pinnings have been unbolted, subframe is ready to come down.

My BMW MPE backbox arrived from Japan. Interesting note, it has a valve built into it for an exhaust flap.

Some real progress coming soon.

It's actually a car port space in my condo complex. Couldn't push it into my garage if my life depended on it. So this is where it's staying until I can work out all the kinks.

Replaced the carpets and got a few more black interior parts. Not finished yet.

Getting ready to pull the old subframe

Bad photo it was getting late, new steering rack and subframe in. New issue, there is an air leak in my power steering system, having a hard time finding it. So the car is still stuck stationary.

Starting to look and drive like a car again. Still need more things and started digging into the 4x4 and abs issue, need to find out what part of the car is causing the issue. Gonna be fun, since it can be anything from the previous impact.

Replaced the bad fender, interior is mostly converted to black now, and the wiper delete mod.

How do you go about finding the bubble that is stuck in the PS system?
We used to tilt the front of the car up, and cycle the steering left and right, left and right with the pump on and the reservoir cap open.

You may have it all sorted by now and it's a different case than my car since I was converting to rwd from awd but my car was wrecked on the front right and I couldn't clear the code for 4X4 error till I factory coded the cluster.

Thankfully, yes that's what I did. But it took a fair bit to get it all out of the system.

So factory coded you mean...virginizing the cluster? Reset via EEPROM? Or am I wrong. lol Or just code KOMBI back to default? TyroneShoelaces

Correct on the last part. Not virginized, just default coded the cluster. I use protools, but whatever standard tools you use for the task. Might fix the issue, it did for me. The 4X4 error would not go away otherwise.

I will definitely give that a try. I'm also using Protools. I'll report back. Thanks!
