Hey guys. Happy holidays. So my gf got me the ZHP shift knob for Christmas. Love the feel and weight and am excited to install it. I just have one question.

I've searched the forums and found a variety of opinions on how to best remove the stock shift knob. Some people say pull straight up. Some people say to stick it in an even gear. Some people say twist it (which I'm worried will break something). Others say to open the sunroof and stand in the back and pull up.

Basically, I'm just wondering if there's anything I should avoid doing (like twisting the stock knob). The one thing that I know for sure is not to hit myself in the face with it!

From what I have seen is that people say to put it into neutral and then pull straight up.

Actually, put it in 2nd gear, move your head to one side, and pull. It will come off, but don't be looking straight at it or you'll smack yourself in the nose!

Really? I thought most people suggested putting it in 2nd or 4th. So many different takes. I know that shift boot isn't attached to the knob.

My bad, that's for automatics. As everyone else said, for a manual it should be second gear and pull up.

I read it in other thread and did mine very easily.

Sit on the passenger side. Shift to 4th (2nd will be too left). Then simply pull it up. you may apply some left right torque(very little) to give it some motion.
be careful with your head...the knob will come out immediately.

I put it in 2nd and actually removed it from sitting in the back seat.
Has been snug for the past 2 years.

There was a video on here, and I can't find it now no matter what search terms I use, of a guy that tried to stand on the seat with his head sticking out the sunroof to remove it. He basically punched himself in the balls, then fell out the sunroof. 'twas entertaining. Somebody will probably come along and post it, lol. Don't be that guy!

Just use whatever position gives you the most leverage for you to pull up. You could of had it out by now instead of arguing over semantics of what gear to put it in first.
