Hey guys,

I'm thinking of picking up a 2011 328xi or a 2008 335xi.

Why I think I should get the 328xi:
-warranty
-latest idrive
-lci

Why I think I should get the 335xi:
-faster
-coupe
-cheaper to finance

Keep in mind I need an xDrive car for the winters around here.

Which one would be the better choice? So hard to choose lol!

Is the 2008 CPO? If it is, you may have a similar warranty left, and BMW is running a special on CPOs right now with one option being an additional 2 years of free maintenance.

Also, insurance is a lot more expensive for the 335i. For me it was about a $300/6 mo difference (and my 7 year history is clean, minus one ticket)

i would say the 335xi would be more expensive due to fuel consumption, higher tax and higher insurance. But if u say its cheaper, go for it tbh. If u go the 328 you will always be thinking "What would it be like with those extra ~90hp"

I'd get the 2011 328xi, or maybe even wait for a 2012 at this point.

Way less potential mechanical problems than an older 335i. JMO but you really wouldn't be missing that much without the turbo engine. I kind of wish I'd went with a 128i and shaved a significant amount off my payment.

Thanks for the responses guys. The 335xi is CPO and has around 50,000 km on it which is pretty good. It's got the sport package, premium, iPod and I think something else, can't remember.

Thing is though, insurance is more expensive and if I ever got in an accident I'm sure it would skyrocket.

The 328xi is pretty much brand new (just a few km's on it from being a demo) and it has a heated steering wheel and the nav package. Nav is something I really want so I'm leaning more towards this one.

Plus, I'll have the peace of mind of having a lot of stuff covered by warranty if anything should go wrong. I plan on having this car for 2 years so I kind of don't want to take a chance by getting the 335xi which would be 6 years old by the time I'll want to sell it.

Is a brand new car with a warranty better than a used with CPO?

Really? I always thought 20,000km per year was acceptable but it's probably more like 12,000 or 16,000 right?

It's just more than I would be happy with. It's probably gone through a couple HPFP's already too. I'd find a car that's been driven 10-12k km/yr instead of 20k.

Thanks mate. I think I'll go with the 2011 328xi though. Less power I know but I think I'll just feel better with the car being new. One less thing to worry about eh?

10,000km a year is like 6000 miles. How many people do you know who drive that little?

My insurance changed $11 a year when upgrading from a 328 to a 335. Depends on your area.


As for the rest, I'd base it solely on features and value. I wouldn't buy a 2011 328, but I'd lease it. The pre 09 iDrive is pretty painful, so make sure you understand the differences. It's just so slow and laggy with its menus.

I've had both, and sure the 335 is quicker, but I could go back to a 328 easily. Unlike popular opinion around here, the 328 is not slow, its just not as quick as a 335. And it's new compared to 3 years old with no HPFP worries.

Bah

90% of the population would say that owning a BMW of any kind is akin to the "big house in worse neighborhood". Unless you are choosing the lowest possible cost mode of transportation, you are paying more for a luxury when you buy a car. A BMW is a significant luxury.

To the op, the best advice is to get what you really want with no regrets. Settlig never is a good idea and always leads to regret. Drive both, figure out what you want and go from there.

Again, a BMW of any type is a luxury. And that's ok, so long as you can afford it.
