Engine's mood

In a same day with relatively same temperatures, N54 with JB4 map1 and 94oct gas runs strong and smooth and is eager to rev and next hour start it up and it feels sluggish and rough.

Is there any explanation behind this? Does anybody else have a moody car?

Heat soak, upgrade your intercooler.

Engine runs great when cold. Not so great when hot. Classic heatsoak

Because you haven't had any issues with over heating or codes, I agree with everything that has been posted. Time to look for a new more efficient intercooler.

We offer the Forge unit for the N54, with it the average inlet temperature was 15 degrees Celsius (27 degrees Fahrenheit) colder than that of a stock intercooler, and thanks to it's design it is much more difficult to heat soak.

I have this, with stock intercooler, I'm 99% sure heatsoak isn't always the culprit. Its almost as if the throttle gets remapped on the fly or something.. eager to rev is the perfect way to describe it, seems when it's "on", I have 50+ more wtq just driving around and lag is non-existent. Then other times, its like it's just sleepy/sluggish, with delayed throttle response and pronounced nothing.. nothing.. then it goes.

Yes, same driving style and same outside temps and oil temps around 100-110 celcius. So engine not too hot. Totally defferent powers!

its not that the engine is to hot..its intercooler heatsoak...your iat's that are getting hot, due to the intercooler losing the ability to cool the air charge..classic issue with a stock intercooler. when the iat's get high, the dme makes all kinds of adjustments which could include engine timing and throttle..upgrade your intercooler and even better..add a meth system..it not only cools the air charge, but adds octane to allow max timing
