I think the only advice you'll find on this forum is:

DONT DO IT!

You're risking electrical component malfunction, which BMW's are notorious for. I've seen a few successfully pull it off, but me? I wouldn't risk it.

I didn't install a sub box, but here's my thread on upgrading an e93.

I'd say just the opposite... DO IT!!! Well worth the risk and reward. Mine's not even tuned yet and it's night and day to factory!

Neither my 01 325i nor my 10 335i so far have had any electrical problems. Only issue on my 335i has, of couorse, been the HPFP.
Just take your time, cut as little as possible or better yet, get Technic's harness and cut nothing! Awsome product! As long as you aren't looking to go overboard with amps, power wise, I doubt you'll have any electrical problems related to the stereo.
Good luck!

This was OBVIOUSLY before the question got moved to the section of the forum where manly men do manly things - the A/V forum!

Seriously, that piece of advice has a couple of problems. One is, it's really narrow in experience - we've upgraded dozens of E9x, not counting E70, E60, and X3 and 1 whose codes I forget. Happens all the time.

Secondly, it's based on fear, not facts. It's absolutely true that poor installers and poor DIY jobs can damage any car. Conversely, there isn't ANY car that we can't upgrade the audio in - safely and effectively.
