Was running Mich PSS. But still this means a faster lap time than the 1M.

Intresting fact as this was a bridge to gantry time, Actual time is estimates at 8.20.

The E46 m3 is 8:22. ( take note Carl lol)

Guys can someone post up some figures as this can't be right.

Ta.

The official E46 time was done in Decemer 2000..... That is all....

Hard to really compare times unless on same day/session.

But either way, it is quick!! Does not look as good as M3's though and I wish it had a proper diff.

I don't think too much heed should be paid to these times. I've driven and owned a few cars that were 'faster' round the Ring than my 335i, but then again I bought this car because it is nice and comfortable, plus has loads of tuning potential is avaible.

Personally I love the idea of the 135M hatch thingy. Great car, almost sensible price, should make sure the clowns over at VAG have something to worry about with the comically priced S3 and Golf R range.

People always confuse lap times timed from bridge to gantry and lap times for a full lap.

The present time was made from bridge to gantry and was not a full lap. The time for a full lap will be significantly longer and I would be very surprised if it were still faster than an E92 M3.

Comparing full lap times and BTG times is more or less useless. Also, we don't know whether the M135i was stock.

FYI, in the next issue of the magazine sport auto a supertest will be featured with the M135i that will also include the time for a full lap on the 'Ring. Then we'll know a little better.

Exactly BTG times and full times, got me all confused here. So will defo be waiting for you to update after you read Sport Auto.

Apparently the M135i was totally stock accept for the Pilot super sports. ( apparently).

Bridge to gantry times as follows -

E46 M3 - 8.22 December 2000

1M - 8.15 - June 2011

Alpina B3 - 8.14 - December 2008

E92 M3 - 8.05 - December 2007

Ferrari F430 - 7.55 - January 2006

M3 csl - 7.50 - August 2003

Nissan GTR - 7.29 - April 2008

Need to be a little careful with above as Nissan closed the track to get their time. Others were run on public open days.

Think these are “regular” Nordschleife laps

M135i Now been timed 8:18 For same distance:

Indeed they are. Some people should read up on the difference between BTG times and regular laps...

And the quoted CSL was far, far from being stock either. IMO it should not be included as a regular car.

Indeed. A very good time for such a car without LSD. On the dyno it had 340hp which explains why it was so close to the 1M (better aerodynamics also helped probably). With a remap and a proper LSD a few more seconds could be shaved off I think.

The 7:50 was for a standard CSL.

Yes, you're right. However, as opposed to the standard M3 the CSL was equipped with cup tyres. The comparison is therefor not a really fair one - if you equipped the standard M3 (or the M135i for that matter) with them it would also be faster.

Impressive time from the M135i but not extraordinarily good considering Horst managed to get an e92 335i on 225/45/17 runflats around the NS in 8.26 not to mention the extra power/straight line performance the M135i has over it.

The 8.05 time for the e92 M3 by Sport Auto was done on Pilot Sport Cup + tyres, just to note

That's obvious Marcel, but they still wouldn't go as quick as the CSL..

Without putting them all on the track on the same day under the same conditions there are always going to be arguments about the timing. Bragging rights aside, what it does show is that the car is quick enough to mix it with some pretty quick, and in some cases legendary cars.

...and that for a fairly mainstream hot hatch is impressive.

Drivers

Surely the most important factor is the driver? If you remember a white van lapping faster than a BMW or Jag or whatever, its really down to the driver's skill and how well he or she knows the circuit.

I know if I tried a few quick laps, half the corners I'd be trying to catch a too quick entry and the balance I'd be going at least 10 mph too slow. Really tough to get every corner right.

I recently drove the IoM TT circuit and struggled to find sections where I'd be happy reaching 130mph.......while the very best average that speed! It made it clear that the elite are truly in a different league

Very true.

As for the island. The mountain mile is about the only place I'd be happy going that fast... on a dry day with good visibility and seeing nothing coming the other way. I'll bet you still enjoyed it though!
