One question: Do the Rhino Ramps give you adequate clearance under the vehicle, and did you find they were wide enough for your tires? I have a 330i with sport (and 18 inch wheels) and I am afraid the tires will hang off the sides of the ramps).
As noted above, the rubber flaps just ahead of the front wheels were low enough to scrape and push the Rhino Ramps forward. I had to put a pair of rubber floor mats underneath the ramps to generate enough friction such that they didn't move.

The ramps (4000 lb version) were wide enough for the wheels - just barely. The tires were not hanging off the sides. I have a 325i with 17 inch sport package wheels which are the same width as the 330i 18 inch sport package wheels - 225/45/17 F, 255/40/17 R versus 225/40/18 F, 255/35/18 R. The 8000 lb version of Rhino Ramps are slightly wider (~10 mm), so you might want to try them if you're concerned. They are about $10 more than the 4000 lb version which are about $25.

I bought my oil and filter at the dealer. I was pleasantly surprised that the oil was only $4.99 / qt. This is only about $1 more than Mobil 1 at Costco. I was expecting to pay much more. The filter was $14.99. I'm sure you can find a better deal on the internet.

Oil Comsumption

Has anyone experienced any oil consumption during the break in period? How often should I be checking my oil level, and will I need to top it off?

Wow. Excellent write-up.

I have question about the Oil filter and the O-ring it comes with though.
How do you exactly "assemble" it? anyone have details about this?

or should I not worry about it, just get the filter and i'll be able to find out how its done?

Turns out the 4000 lb version of the ramps were fine, though they were JUST wide enough. Went fine and I am good to go after changing the oil.

Hey All, great writeup. I just changed my oil at 1390 miles. One thing that I noticed though is that my bolt for the oil is flat and parrallel with the ground. The picture here shows the bolt is at an angle almost perpendicular to the ground. Anyone else notice this? I should have taken a picture but didn't have a camera around. Anyone else have the bolt flat?

Also I think the other mystery bolt is for the transmission fluid.

Great writeup!

I've always wondered: How do DIY oil-changing folks discard the used oil?

Was the bolt oriented | or like _? The oil bolt was oriented parallel to the ground ( _ ). It was perpendicular to the mystery bolt ( | ). As long as you removed the bolt behind the trap door, I wouldn't worry.

Yes, I took my used oil to Kragen Auto. Pep Boys also takes used oil. In fact, most chain auto parts stores will take used oil.

Maybe this is a 325 vs 330 thing? Interesting!
