Like many of you here, I've had enough with all the peeling...

What I plan to do is cover all these plastic pieces with Scotchprint 1080 Black Brushed Aluminum or possible Matte Black (similar in color to the black plastic).

Hope to do this sometime during the Holidays.

Got pass door handle replaced under warranty(dealership replaced whole door panel lol).
But they would not replace steering wheel cover.
Took it off and plasti dipped. Looks like new and love the texture finish.
Plan to do it on window control on driver side.

Yep, mine is actually getting to be pretty rough. I'm just ignoring it for now though.

You can buy the part and replace it. The door pull part number is #18 here:
http://www.bmwetk.info/parts-catalog...35/51419150338

However It is not totally plug an play. You have to take the door panel off, then use a dremel to drill out the 4 plastic pegs that have been heat molded to keep the door pull on. Once you have dremeled them off you then have to take the new door pull, put it in place on the panel and then heat the black pegs now sticking out the back of the panel with a heat gun. Once it is hot enough to be molded you then have to press down on the pegs with a flat block. This will then form the reattachment. Kind of confusing but worked perfect for me.

I only have one small flaking starting on my driver side inner door handle area but I must say out of all the things to go wrong with this car this is one thing that actually gets me mad that we're having to deal with.

A lot of the other things I've given BMW the benefit of the doubt, even chalked it up to how the person treated their car but there really is no excuse for a higher end car to have these kind of issues.

Garage List
Got the same problem. When it's hot that paint gets really soft and a fingernail can easily scratch it.

My car is looking pretty shabby with the peeling now, and it bugs me to the point that I have to do something about it soon. I now have peeling around the front door speaker---an area that gets touched only with a light wipedown when I'm cleaning the car. I don't have the skills to remove the door panel to replace the part myself, and it seems like a waste of time and money to pay to replace with OEM bits since they'll just peel again. I'm going to look around for an aftermarket place that sells hard plastic replacement materials rather than this cheapo shit quality BMW stuff.

Don't use plasti dip. It will come off in couple weeks. Sprayed 5-6 coats on my steering wheel cover and its starting to come off after month. Wrap it with vinyl.

The armrest is replaced, not the entire door panel. The reason they did a painted plastic from the factory is cost. Normal wear makes the paint peel off, depending on what lotions the customer uses, this is accelerated. The new armrest (door pull is what we call it) is plastic w/ the color in it. BMW was trying to cut cost, this didn’t work out too well for them. The new grab handle is secured w/ nuts that bite into the plastic posts, then you grind away the post or the new handle will not sit right once the door panel is secured.

Hadn't thought about that. Will start looking around for a local guy who does this.
