I had some crazy swirl marks in my paint from where some dummy tried to use a buffer incorrectly before I bought the car. It looked like wax that had dried before wiping off, but they were indeed a bunch of scratches. Just used Meguiar's Ultimate Compound with an orbital and it took it all out! It's hard to wipe it all off, so I just went back over it with wax and it looks amazing now. Highly recommended.

I just recently took the leap to more serious detailing tools and products... but the last "pep boys" three step I bought was the Meg's Ultimate you mentioned, worked with my Craftsman Orbital with Microfiber pads. Like you said the compound does a pretty good job in making the car look a lot more swirl free, in normal light. Followed up with the Ultimate polish then wax and it looked much better.

After I washed it a lot of the imperfections came back in the same place, so that led me to believe that there is a lot of filler in these products and that I needed a buffer upgrade bad (just bought a flex 3401=hell...yes)

The reason why it didn't come off easy was that you probably used to much, worked to big of an area or let it dry which are no good for compounds and polishes. I actually enjoyed the ease of use and the cleanliness of the product.

PS - Try it on your headlights it makes them look real good.

+1 on the Ultimate Compound. Good results from a easy to find big box product. Used it on my JB e90, much more JB now.

Afterwards, I tried out another big box product, Armor-All Extreme Shine Wax, about $15. Easy to apply and wipe off. One claim they make, something along the lines of "repelling dirt" I found to be true to some degree. The car seemed to keep it's clean look longer, between washes. Very satisfied.

No I did wipe it off. I was just talking about very light spots here and there that wouldn't come off easily.

Ok good. It sounded like you just put the wax on top. Just next time, prime the pad then only 3-5 pea sized drops after every section. It should wipe off easier next time.

I use this 3 step product also. Works great. I will probably try some more professional stuff once I'm out of it though.

if it is hard to wipe off that means you havent flashed the compound. flashing is when the product changes from a hazy color to a clear color after enough passes. once the product runs clear, it becomes much easier to wipe off
