N55 engine transplant in E30??

Has anyone ever done or heard of a N55 i6 transplant into a E30. Ive seen E46 M3 engine transplant. Ive been recommended to drop a 740i V8 into it, but id like to stick with a six. Any suggestions or even experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I would say there are none of these. There's always got to be a first!!! Why the N55 and not the N54? There are probably much better deals on N54s?

Someone had attempted it on bimmerforums and was facing issues with running the double VANOS and direct injection with a standalone. Stock ECU posed a problem too as it may need input from other areas for it run:

However, this was from 3 years ago...

I am doing N55 swap into E30. N55 is easier because of single turbo and it clears the subframe. I already did N55 into E36 swap so I know what electronics need to be transferred from a donor car. I did the dry fit for now and it looks like it will work just fine. Custom oil pan will have to be made as well as the engine mounts, stock brake booster won't work it touches the engine computer, the E21 booster will have to be used and even then moved just a little.

Update: 2014.
I ended up installing the N55 in 1996 328i E36, I ran out of funds.

Here is the E36 swap thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=944446

Possible? Sure, anything is possible- with the right about of money and determination.

Practical and efficient? Hardly. Ambitious? Hell yes!

Swap is very straightforward, it is easier than doing M60 V8 swap. All that is needed is custom oil pan made for the engine to fit properly. 6 speed manual transmission fits but not automatic.
