335i Engine Management light - Vanos, solenoid valve, bearing ledge etc.

I've had the engine management light (reduced power) light come on twice now and it says it relates to a blocked pipe or something, can't remember the name

The previous owner took it in and they flushed it & adjusted the timing, and now I've just done that, I suspect he took it in more times than paperwork suggests and that's the reason for selling?

I found a good topic on N54tech that said next they replaced a bearing ledge, and then solenoid valves but the light and reduced power was still coming up

after many trips they eventually replaced the whole Vanos unit & he's never seen the light since

was wondering your experiences and if it did stop after a few repairs or just asking BMW to replace the whole unit is best and will save everyone's time?
I just renewed extended warranty with £0 excess so makes no difference to me!

You need to read the codes.

It could be any number of things.

Dont worry.

agree, there's a shed load of possible faults, you need to get the codes, either from a decent indy or via your own lead.

BMW read the code and said it relates to the blocked vanos unit, so they flushed it & sent me on my way

I only fear this will keep happening without any resolution

Drive the car hard everywhere until the VANOS faults flag up again

Go back to dealer and say the car needs sorting as it has been botch fixed unsucessfully by them a number of times.

Dear friends;
last week i bought a 335i.(2008 coupe 99000km)
first day i floored it, after 7000rpm; reduced power! (full engin power no longer available. possible to continue journey. drive moderately.) it was like 150hp
after stop and restart engine no warning but when i floor again i see reduced power!
i found the first owner of the car, he told me that; bmw service can not repair this problem, everytime you will see this warning (when i floor it). i am so so worry now
i checked all service records.
they changed these parts;
13517594943 hpfp
13537585261 injektor
11367540348 outlet camshaft
11127550913 bearing ledge intake
11127531224 bearing ledge exhauste
11317584803 inlet camshaft
11317584804 camshaft exhauste

i researced in forums, i read a lot of posts.
i found vanos solenoid.
does anyone know the part number?
is it definitly solution for me?

pls help help help....

another one bites the dust....

In your list....maybe replacing the coil packs might be worth it?...

But you have to read the codes and find out where the problem lies...

1) Why are you revving beyond 7k rpm, its not an M3, did you hit the limiter?! possible cause of the half engine light in itself... Peak power is gone before 6,500rpm.

2) If you dont have a code reader go to a dealer/Independent, you could spend thousands replacing things which dont need to be replaced! much cheaper to just get the codes read and replace the correct thing..

i like too much high rpm
my car is AT. When i press full gas, after change gear, halk engine light come on!

i said them " dont replace anything without inform me, especially chack the vanos solenoids "

and i learnd another thing from philip;

Mine was a small plastic nipple on a hose that connects to my wastegate, it was cracked and so the monitored boost didn't match up to the expected boost and it shut off the turbos to prevent any problems.

The replacement metal part was less than 2 dollars and took about an hour to diagnose and replace.

I don't think the HPFP problem is as prevalent nowadays, simply small vacuum leaks.

VANOS solenoids are part #1.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...67&hg=11&fg=15

One for the intake and one for the exhaust. Same part number. They are fairly easy to replace if you have a few tools and are not afraid of a bit of DIY. It probably took me 45min doing it carefully. My exhaust one started to stick at Brands Hatch, so I just replaced both. INPA was able to read the sub code that the cause was stiff/jammed VANOS, but without reading the codes you are really guessing.

If it is the VANOS solenoids, then you can probably clean them and get some more life out of them but eventually they will fail. For the sake of faffing around for £160 I just replaced both of them and it's be good ever since.

Thanks to all friends...
i solved the problem. Thanks Allah...
Service thinked to change vanos solenoid
But i didnt because when now it doesnt have any problem.
İn my opinion the problem is little petrol. Fuel.
When i got the car from dealer. İt has very small fuel
Reason of "half engine power" is that
When i got completely full fuel
After 200-300 km everything is ok.

Again thanks for all interest friends )
Best regards...
