Oil and metal shavings

Hi all,

I need some insight!

I just recently took off my HKS BOV and the charge pipe that came with it so I can take it to BMW for its second service interval, and once inspecting the pipe that was connected to the throttle body I seen a lot of oil, with this itself is not unusual the 335i is known for this (I have the AR OCC kit so this will fix that once I install it) but I also notice that in the pipe with the oil there is metal shaving in it as well.

So I am guessing there shouldn't be any metal shaving in there and very little oil. (I had to add over a liter of oil over 3 months ago)

The car is running fine and I have not felt any power loss but when I did do my dyno test in the past everyone did mention that I should be pushing higher numbers then I did.

My car is still under warranty but how do I get BMW to check this out?

The car is back to stock and I am afraid to drive it (LOL) but I am going to drive more before I take it back to the dealer.

I need so insight with this and thanks in advance!

a new motor would always have metal shavings in the oil within the first 2-3 oil changes depending how hard you drive it...
if yours is a 2008 like you stated in your avatar, you should definitely check out your oil and see if there is chunks of metal shaving...
i would do an oil analysis via http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ , they can check the types of metal that is in the oil and give you possible causes and which parts are wearing off more than normal...

It is a 2008 new from the dealer!

I updated my post with a pic of the pipe.

It seems to be aluminum (non magnetic) my magnet did not move or pic up any of it.

And I sent for that test kit.

Thanks!

Was this pipe (where you found the shavings) downstream (closer to throttle body) or upstream from the BOV?

Well found out today that one of my turbos are going, spoke to a garage that specializes in BMWs and the same thing happened to one of there customers.

So does anyone have the part number of the new improved turbos?

Report Update

Well I just got my oil report and they recommend me to change my oil at 20,000KMs and not at 25,000KMs so very is braking in as it should.
