Your idea of the perfect company car
I have had the 318d for 4 months and have to say it's fairly perfect for a company car.
I chose the 318d as the cost in tax due to emissions is only £120 a month. I also chose the following options: M-Sport seats and steering wheel as they are very comfortable, did not want the m-sport as the suspension is too hard and the ride is compromised with run flats. Black roof lining as it feels sportier. Up-graded stereo Part leather as it's a lot cheaper than full leather and looks and feels premium Heated seats, auto lights and wipers, cruise control as I mainly do motorway journeys and bluetooth. Over the last 3500 miles I have averaged 50 mpg. The only cost to me is £120 a month in tax. All in all a very hard car to beat as a company car. What are your views on the perfect company car (not car allowance). Last edited by JLR1969; 08-03-2011 at 01:30 PM.. |

It depends on how many miles I would be doing.
My mileage has dropped over the past 18 months, but I would still want an auto. Looking at my current co car list, I'd probably go for either the F10 520d M-Sport Auto or the Merc C350 CDI Blueffciency Sport.

I don't get a company car but I get to use the bosses boxster spider for going to meetings. Sadly it's being replaced next week for a v10 r8 and I've already been told I won't be trusted with it.
318d does sound like it would be hard to beat. It's everything most would need. |

520d Efficient dynamics in the 13% tax band looks promising.

thats not bad though last time I checked we could have an astra or a 406 on our list of cars so no thank you. As cheap to tax company cars go something like yours is not bad. £1200 a year for hassle free motoring. THought not sure I could live with lower power

The lack of power is a bit of a shame but if you accept that it's only got 143bhp then you don't expect too much.
TBH once on the motorway at 80 mph it's all the power you need. I think I miss the noise of the V8 as much as the power. |

What is it that makes a V8 petrol sounds soooo good...even 6 cylinders can be very alluring as well..
Good point about all the power you need. At least the 318d has a good slug od torque to help you keep up on the mway. I am sure on a equiv petrol you would need to drop a cog...

If i was doing a lot of miles then a Jaguar XJ SuperSport SWB, if the business was doing really well.
If it was doing ok then it's hard to ignore the 5 series Low miles then i would just have and m3 on lease. // Just seen the £450 limit, for that i don't know, it would have to be a 4 cylinder then. |

Been that long since i had a company car that it used to be the more you drove, the less tax you paid. If you did more than 18k per year, you only paid tax on 10% of the cars value. How times have changed.
Perfect company car now? has to be a F10 520d. Predictable I know. |

Have to say I am loving my 318d m sport tourer, cheaper to lease than any ford or vauxhall equivalent, does epic mpg (4k a month sometimes so has to be good). The one option I would not live without is the prof nav.
A 520d tourer would be better though (are they available yet?) |
