Album art on iDrive screen??

Hello everyone...

I drive a 2011 E92 335i with iDrive. It is an earlier production 2011 with a build date of March 2010.

I usually run with my split screen going... Radio/Sat/or iPod on left, right side I have the Nav map up.

When I am playing in the iPod mode, it shows current track, lists about 5 or 6 songs listed and I can scroll up and down. I am connected using the y-cable.

Last night I noticed a friend had his album art on his screen while running a split screen. I was like WTF? He said is has always done that. He drives a 2011 E90 328 with iDrive. He has had the car for 6 months, so likely a late 2011 production date.

What differences are there that I am missing?? Can this be updated?

Any help would be appreciated... I have searched and havent found anything.

If you search here, I believe you will find out that the Album Art feature was offered on the later 2011 models and forward. The change was hardware related, so a software update won't help.

It started it with late September 2010 builds.

We do all kind of upgrades and retrofits, so if you wish to display album art - it definitely CAN be done! We have done this many many times for our customers! Please send us an email to info@bimmerretrofit.com with the last seven characters of your VIN # and your forum ID.
In case installation is required, we have an installation location in Toronto

You could try not using y cable and use just your iPod cable straight into USB plug. That will tell you for sure if it will work. As mine does it only if I don't use y cable.
