The Official Spring 2007 DC Metro Meet Planning and Discussion Thread

Well, its about that time to start planning for our annual Spring 2007 meet.

First of all, a short update. All is well with DC metro! Since our last meet in October 2006, we have had the privilege of having new enthusiastic and dynamic members joining our ever growing family. Welcome once again!

Our little family is indeed prospering. A quick check at the DC metro registry today shows a total of 103 strong members. :rocks:

Congratulations to JKratty on being our 100th member This is an important milestone to us and we plan for a commemorative recognition of sorts. Well, if that don't work out, we'll at least buy you a round or two at one of the upcoming social gatherings

Anyways on the matter of the moment. First of all, this discussion thread is coming out a little late, apologies.

Customarily we host our Spring meets on the 3rd Sunday of the month. So I'll leave either Sunday May 20th or Sunday May 27th as possible dates.

Our Spring meets are and should be generally smaller than our Grand Fall Meets. It an opportunity for us to come out and embrace the warmer weather and to catch up with old and new members.

Our Spring meets is also reserved to try out new concepts and ideas which might be incorporated into our other meets.

So with that in mind, we would like to humbly solicit fresh and new meet ideas, proposals, concepts etc. from you, for us to enjoy.

This is our meet so let's collectively plan for it.

Traditionally our meets have 3 main components:

- Meet and Greet (social)
- Group photo (records, recognition)
- Drives (activity)

If possible, please incorporate the listed components into your ideas...

Some sponsorship may still apply for this meet. We will start scouting. We will also entertain other sponsor support ideas.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ht=great+falls

I wonder how new DC Metro mbrs feel about this?

one thing we've observed is that DC Metro guys always build upon past Meets lessons learned.

its our conservative nature, I guess....

We go with the tried and tested, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for new and radical ideas that can be neatly incorporated.

Which is good!

With previous official Meets (1st-4th) DC Metro have learned to capitalized more on areas like timing, place, settings and time-allowances for each activity all the way to happy endings. Thks to Donny and other senoir mbrs, we now have the registry going for us as a good pool for participants, and also friends from previous BMW boards that made friends with us during the last Fall Meet. I know they are on the sidelines lurking! and waiting
Will we dissappoint them ?

There is no wrong or right here, and previous members knows what it took to make things happen, but certainly not the final say. What seem certain that had happen in the past is that a seasonal Meet is bound to happen, especially now that the support and member structure is setup and has a life of its own.

I'm so glad this thread was started so we can have another great meet! Please do it on the 27th and not the 20th. My parents are in town for the Preakness and while it was ok dragging my dad to our meet last year I don't think it'll fly with my mom.

And if you put the meet on a day I can make it I might be able to bring along a good friend of mine who is a mechanic (done new suspensions on M3s and works on his own drag race car) to give you all some advice on various installations.

Plus after my whole car ordeal I need to be at this meet!!!!!

yes! I agree... GW was fun but all those traffic light cut our group in so many different ways what we didnt see one long string of cars like we wanted to video tape. Fairfax County parkway was one of the suggested roadways before, or maybe starch or scotties famous road tours. Just an idea of crse to get the thread going.

btw.. pls elaborate on what you mean by "...I think we should branch out"

Time to weigh in:

I am okay with either weekned, but will agree to try to include Dani because with what she's gone through for the love of her car, well, she deserves a little catering to.

I think a scenic drive may be in the works, and my idea would be to meet at Great Falls Park, at the River Bend boat launch for a BBQ/picnic, picture taking, hanging out and then a nice spirited drive through those great roads. The picnic areas at the main entrance to the park are nice, but usually crowded and the parking lot is a terrible place for pix. However, the River Bend boat launch area is usually only littered with the random canoe'rs car, and we'll have room to stretch out many, many cars for pix with a great rocky/watery back drop. PLUS, there are tables and areas for a DC Metro PICNIC...burgers, dogs, BEERS, chips, BEERS...and oh, yeah - BEERS.

Those who are wise and go easy on the drinkage can all follow the leader for a nice little drive....

Brian can bring that awesome camera of his for the scenic shots, and I'll gladly help with communications, logistics, and procurement.

Let's get the ball rolling...I will also drop by Sterling BMW and speak to my guy there to see if they'd like to sponsor and have some gifts, coupons, and other stuff...maybe if the weather is nice they'll let me borrow an e93 335i to drop the top and soak up some sun!

Scott,

Yes a BBQ would be nice, this idea was brought up a few times last year but not to fruition I'm afraid.

It'd be nice to just hang out and kick back over some bbq. I like this idea

The first annual DC metro BBQ

The only thing is, it'd be hard to incorporate the drive segment into the same day, unless we do it before.

We could all ROLL-OUT together in one big, happy line of BMWs...a thing of beauty...some will take the shorter path, others can follow me through the twisties...

This has been suggested before I know that sixspeedsam is dying to get us out there to AC. We all know how he gets...

Its a planning/logistic nightmare though due to the time involved...we'll KIV this for one of the smaller social events, I think.
