Exhaust Idea for 335

My wife and I were looking under the car during an exotic sex escapade and came up with an interesting exhaust idea.

Run a 2.25" -> 3" flowmaster Y and then a single 3" exhaust all the way back to a single 3" muffler on the right side. By eliminating the exhaust plate and the need to cross over to the driver side you could make the run very straight. Should be pretty cheap too, I'd guess $375 installed.

One 3" pipe has less area than 2 - 2.25" pipes. (15.9*2 vs. 28). It may not seem like much but it is a 14% difference. I wonder how that would impact performance.

Less area but also less surface area, I've found 1 3" pipe flows better than dual 2.5" pipes in a few combos over the years.

I forgot, why THE FUCK are you gonna put a shitty Flowmaster on a BMW???

I wouldn't even allow that shit to go on my truck, let alone in the bed to take to the dumpster. Flowmaster mufflers suck.

Flowmaster ypipe, probably a dynomax muffler. I've had mostly domestic cars.

Here is the flowmaster y:

or perhaps ramp it up to 3.5" all the way back:

I wish someone made an offroad down pipe/ypipe with a single 3.5" termination. =/

I agree. Less surface area = less friction 3" should be reasonably adequate for a 380bhp car. We run 3" exhausts on Evos that make 500+hp. As for mufflers, Flomasters (and other chambered designs) aren't the best choice in my opinion. I've always like Magnaflows personally and I'm sure there are other straight-thru brands that are equally good.

Apparently you didn't get that I was exaggerating. The car I've ever liked the sound of Flows on were Mustangs.

I'm glad the OP either chose to ignore my comment or not take it seriously. Lighten up man, not everything you read is serious.

I would like to hear Flows and love it, so I hope the OP does it and it sounds great. I just hope they're stainless steel.

Joining the pipes creates turbulence -> backpressure. It wold be nice to see dyno results though.

I think it's a neat idea but (my friend) decided to try the easy route first. He just ordered a few 2 1/4" mandrel bends and a pair of 2 1/4" exhaust cutouts.

He is going to cut the stock exhaust right before the pup cats, go straight back with new piping (ditch the exhaust plate), then after the rear axle go in to dual 2 1/4" cutouts (they will both open towards the center of the car, in-between the stock mufflers), and finally to the factory mufflers. He will also plug the vacuum line going to butterfly valve in the driver side tip so both sides are always open.

With the cutouts open it should flow OK, and there might even be an improvement with the cutouts closed due to the pup cat/resonator/crush bend elimination.

Borla would be great. I had it on my truck and always received compliments. It wasn't very loud, but gave it that perfect rumble.
