I have a 2010 328i sedan (non-sport pckg) with 205/55r16 tires all around.
I've had the car for about two years and I'm getting close to having to replace the tires. I asked the parts sales rep at BMW San Antonio if I could possibly replace my tires with 225/40 18s (front) and 255/35 18s (back), but he said that there was no way I could do that. He mentioned that that staggered size setup is only for the 335 models with sports suspension, and he told me that I should not attempt to install any other tire size on the car other than the 205/55r 16 because my car does not have the sport package and and tire wider or larger than the current one would rub and cause damage.


I wanted to know if the parts rep is in fact correct...? I was hoping to get a nicer tire/wheel setup to give the car a sportier, more aggressive look (maybe some Breytons). What wheel/tire size can I go up to (if any) without having to use any spacers or make any modifications to the car's suspension.

Thats BS. You can easily use 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 tyres.
BMW stock setup 18inch is front 18x8 et34 and 18x8.5 et37.That fits all 3-series E90/91/92/93 models without problems.

You can go even wider wheels and tyres if you want.

I think I'd be looking for a new place to get parts. I am running 235/35r19 et 33 and 265/30r19 et35 on my 2011 328i sedan and have no problems. I ran the same setup on my previous 2009 323i sedan without sport as well and again no probs at all. Lots of clearance provided you get the right offsets. Wheels are Alufelgen SF 71 in 8.5 and 9.5 widths.

It's wrong, your 328i can fit the same wheels as 335i.

sounds like the bmw sales guy doesn't know what he's talking about. even on your door it says you can run those tyres. even in the manual it says you can.

do as others said and upgrade without a worry... sport package and 335, lol.

I am hoping that the 225/40 18s (front) and 255/35 18s (back) setup will give the car a better look. There is no Tire Rack in my city, but there is a Discount Tire, so this is probably where I'll end up having to make the purchase for the tires.

However, I'll probably order the wheels off the Tire Rack website as Discount Tire doesn't seem to carry Breytons, I was thinking of ordering the Breyton GTS-R set. How do the quality of wheels that Discount Tire carries compare to Breytons? Discount tire carries Beyern, Drag, Falken, Konig Momo, etc.
