Washer jets being knicked.

Couple of weeks ago I was chatting to guy at my local tyre shop who had his washer jets knicked from the front of his e92, I thought this was odd. but have recently seen 3 e92s in my area over the last week with them missing.

WTF is going on, why are people taking these? I'm a little paranoid about mine now.

I thought a quick eBay search would give us the answer, but there aren't many for sale on there.

Bawbag thieves will nick anything if they think they can get a bob or two for it.

Alot have been lost due to freezing in cold weather. I lost one of mine this way, but the BMW dealer replaced it FOC (even though out of warranty, BMW are replacing them). At least 1 other car was in at the same time as mine for the same thing.

As they come unpainted, its an approx £150 job (for one).

Are they turning up on ebay like 225Ms?

Forgive the ignorance, but are we talking about headlight washers or windscreen washers?

headlamp jets - they have rams that extend out with water pressure - but this also means that if they freeze the water pushes the nozzle out and they can drop out!

I notice newer BMWs just have fixed nozzles.......

If someone tries to nick my washers or wheels, I'd love to catch them.

At the risk of getting some kind of criminal record, they'd feel the rough end of my putter.

I guess it's not a new 'Beastie Boys' type phase, when everyone nicked VW badges? Can't see a washer jet hanging around your neck looking v. good!

I don't think they get nicked, they just drop off.

What's this car tagging with pens all about then?

Can't recall exact figures, but I think it was about £40 for the washer jet, £15 for the cover, plus paint + labour + VAT. The labour includes removing the bumper so its not a 5 min job for the dealer - £150 was my guess all in. The covers don't come painted, which surprised me (I would have though they get shipped to the factory during production already painted, hence ditto spares).

I'd agree Dave, they are well known to come flying off.

I think the car tagging is to let others know which car to nick!
