Difference between Capacitor and Stiffening Capacitor

I am looking at capacitors and I am seeing regular Capicitors and "Stiffening" Capacitors. I assume there is a difference, but I cannot find a good answer. I am looking at a 1 Farad Capacitor for a 500W RMS amp.

I'm not sure what the differerence is but I don't really think you need a cap. I have a JL 500/1 in my car and it's fine without one. I think if you're going to be pushing more than 1000w you may need one, maybe even 1500w, but not 500w.

thanks for the information. I was not sure, because I was reading on other car forums where they needed to get it, but on the BMW forum, I could not find anyone using it when just powering the under-seat subs.
