2006 E90 New shoes for the Newbie
Hey guys. I have been a long time BMW guy since my first 1999 325ic.
Today I own a E90 2006 Sedan. Bone stock. Money was and well still is a huge issue when I bought my last set up. It is from Tire Rack consisting of Komho's along with the inexpensive Sport Edition Wheels. See pics. The tires are just 225/40's all around. Since the wheels are all 8 inch and they do not make an 8.5 version I can get for the back I am a bit stuck. Obviously I want a big more aggressive look in the back end with something wider. I understand the 255/35/18's say they need an 8.5 rim. I have heard a zillion things on this from differerent shops etc. I also understand that blowing a tire off a speed is not a great idea. But maybe you guys know. Am I safe to run the 255/35 on that 18X8? Is the 1/2 more cosmetic since the wheel will hang a bit more or is it really a safety factor since it is just 1/2 inch. Id love to keep the wheels as they actually do get some looks and I like the front set up just fine of course. Of course I know TR is always blowing out great deals on wheels and I could bump up to 19's on this style but hate to spend more than I need to. Prefer to just mount the rubber on the back. Final dumb question.... how much better if at all with those 255/35's look back there over the 225/40's? anyone have a pic of 18 inch 225's up front and 255's in the back on this car? Ok ill shut up. |

It is just outside of the recommended range, so while we cannot officially recommend doing it, I doubt it would be a problem.

I would recommend going the spacer route first to see if the desired stance is what you like before purchasing tires. The 255's do require at least a 8.5" wheel, but 8" shouldn't be a problem like Gary said.
