Will Windshield Cover/Screen Cause leaks?
I have gaps in mine as you can tell by my grossly below average pics I included with some arrows to highlight the issues with the cover?
Will I have leaks because of the gaps or is that just another cosmetic thing? I promise this is my LAST question in regards to leaks inside the vehicle Thanks for any help on this issue, MrD

It could, but it is unlikely. Take a cup of water and see if it goes in the crack. If it does, you should look into resealing it somehow.

Ok I will try that trick this weekend, I was just wondering if the windshield was sealed then water should not get past it, unless it would trickle down into the dash?

well when I washed my ride with some new Meguires NXT shampoo yesrterday and I made sure to soak the hell out of that gap to see if any water would run into the interior. I did not see any, but that doesnt mean it wont trickle in later I guess?.
I might have to remove the WHOLE cover/panel to see if something is caught under there and stopping it from sealing flush against the windshield? If one of u get a chance take a peek at yours and see if you have the same gaps in the center or if yours if flat and flusg to the Windshield. THANKS

If it does leak, you would not see it for a while because it would run behind the dash or into the compartment were the wiper motor and linkage is. Jpsum may be right, it could be sealed from underneath in which case, you don't need to worry about it.

thank u guys, but can u please check yours to see if it is sealed all the way across the windshield? That way if mine is not normal I will bring it up next time I am at the stealership.
But from what I read the windsheild is glued down so that wont leak but the slow leak behind the scenes is very possible.

I don't have a BMW at the moment, but there is a 3 series in the parking garage. I will take a look at that for you.

There is a line of sticky calk between the cover and the windshield. Also, any water that gets under the cover will drain into the cowling and then down to the ground. The windshield is sealed to the frame no water can get in. Don't worry about it. If you want to fix it, most auto parts stores sell it. It is for sealing windshield trim and windshields to the frame. It is black, round and really sticky, and comes in 1/4 inch sizes from 1/4 in. to 1/2 inch. Lift the trim up, put some of the calk in and then press down.

^^ thank you a LOT, Cause my main worry was leaks into the car, I think I will leave it, at least until spring time.
I dont want to jynx anything, and with my car its been a little cursed, so if it wont cause any Damage to anything, then I will leave it alone. Thanks again to everyone who has replied to this thread

yes it will cause leaks...got my ass kicked on a water leak coming in behind the dash because of that...reason it was hard was because there is cloth batting on top of the paneling under the dash so usually you wont see the water unless there is a ton of it. it will typically leak in by the blower motor...
EDIT: there is no "sticky" stuff under there from the factory..the factory seal is suppose to clip in and sit flush against the windshield...typically issues with this happen when the windshields are replaced the glass guys dont install them properly. ^^ Oh Shyt! That sucks, I have not messed with it yet but it sounds like something I should be next time the day is nice out. It appears like there is some stuff to remove to get it off and I tried pushing it down but its like something is stopping it.
Man now I am worried, I will check under my dash today to see if it is wet at all, is it the pass or drivers side?

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this, I could not find your post.
Anyway, I checked all 4 BMWs in the parking garage and none of them have a gap in the molding. Even the white E36 does not have a gap. I would get that fixed somehow.

Yeah now I just need to search to see what I need to remove to get to that cover and re-attach it somehow? I know my dealership wont cover it, since I have just CPO warranty.

Call a winshield repair company, its cheap to replace the trim and seal. An entire new windshield on my Subaru only cost $150. This can't be that bad to fix.

I bet it would cost a fortune to have the cover replaced, I mean this is a bimmer not a scooby
I figured nothing looks damaged so it should not be a hard fix
