need help with 335I AT fluid change

OK so I warmed the car up to get the tranny temp above 86 degrees F. Then opened the drain and just under 4 liters drained out. So I go to refill it and I could only get a little more than 2L in before it starts dripping out the fill hole. Started the car and went through the gears and warmed it up again and could only get another 1/2 L in. The car is level on jack stands. What am I missing?

The engine needs to be running when topping up the fluid.

When doing a transmission fluid drain and fill from the oil pan, about 3 1/2- 4 quarts of oil will flow out. However, there's still a significant amount of transmission fluid still located within the torque converter of the transmission which cannot be extracted unless the car is running at the time of the flush. To have the correct amount of quarts in the transmission, gradually add more transmission fluid while the car is running and consistently check the fluid level till it's slightly above the second dimple of the dip stick.
