e93 vs snow...
e93 wins, hands down!!! We had our first snow in northern VA. A good 3+ inches on the road and she didn't blink. Only slide when I pushed it hard, but the skid was very controlled.
My first winter with a bimmer. I was definitely nervous with 19" summer tires, and heard horror stories over the years about how BMW's are in the in the winter. So I purchased a set of wheels and winter tires from Tire Rack. Awesome choice. Do not fear a rear-wheel drive BMW in the snow...you just need the right equipment. It's a tank. |

Summer tires? Don't be ignorant. Get a proper set up before you hurt someone. Stock wheels and winter tires are very affordable. Make the investment.

Dude you're out of your mind driving in the snow with 19 inch summer tires.
I have 18 inch Michelin pilot Alpin PA4s on and still drove conservatively. Let's not even get into the fact that you're completely ruining your summer tires in this weather. |

Killing me guys. Come on!
Was just trying to share some positive BMW experience to those who are nervous about winter driving. I've always had front wheel or 4-wheel drive, with all season tires. Had no idea how much difference winter tires make. |

I'm really sorry dude. I feel horrible for being such an idiot for not reading the post through- here I thought you were riding on summer tires.
Oh yeah, it is definitely something to share. I was going to share a similar story tonight. Us E93 guys gotta stick together |

With full DTS and traction control, I'm always in total control on the snow. Black ice presents some new issues but the traction is great with the x-drive. The 17" winters are great - not the best look but solid performers.

As an additional point, also love the REST button, heated steering wheel, and paddle shifters. I'm all set for winter! Thoroughly impressed by the cars winter handling. |

I think it has something to do with the compound they are made out of. I know it is an extremely bad idea to drive on them in extreme cold.

I'm definitely not an expert, but I was all about getting these Michelin Alpin PA4s after trying one run with the summers last year. Was like driving on glass slathered in Vaseline. Never again.
