iphone 3gs

I dont understand why people are buying the new iphone on ebay for more than they actually cost in the shop on pay as u go. ive seen completed auction prices from anything around +>£400 to +£700! are people really stupid or am i missing something?

i dont think stock is an issue becos apple store uk have them in stock right now for delivery in 2 days. it jsut doesnt make sense why people are paying over the odds for a supposed new phone on fleebay when they can buy legit from many retailers out there online. very confused.....

I have been 'informed' through some covert investigating that there are no stock problems with the new iPhone!

I often wonder whether the eBay bids are genuine; I reckon there are plenty of traders who use the system to bump up the perceived value of a particular product.

On the subject of iPhones, I have just updated my normal 3G to the latest 3.0 software and it is a disaster....
  • The battery has gone from lasting 2-3 days to just a few hours on standby
  • Some of the apps don't run as smoothly as before

Anyone else have any similar feedback?

Strange... I love my gadgets but how some can sit in a tent outside the shop for days before it got launched is beyond me.

We've become a hungry and impatient society!

I've been waiting to do mine for that exact same reason... let them iron out the bugs first and get it done on it's second release.

My N97 arrives tomorrow which is being billed as an 'iphone killer' - who'd beleive the hype though

I reckon I'll hate it though but have been hanging onto my N95 for the last 2 years waiting for something 'exciting' to come out. I just thought, what the hell, do it. I think the new N86 (8mp camera) made more sense but hey ho.

Sorry, ventured slightly off topic...

Well this could maybe be a handy topic for me lol.

I spoke to 02 today about upgrading to the 3GS (from an N95 8GB)

Firstly I think this time no matter what phone I get, I will have to relent and get an 18 month contract (even last year I beat 02 down until they gave me the 8gb for free on a 12 month) so I wasnt too worried about that.

However, to get even the 16GB 3GS for a reasonable price (free) you have to pretty much sign up for 2 years and pay about £35 a month (it could be more I cant remember) and this seems a lot to me for what is just a slightly better phone than last time.

The thing with me is - I dont CARE about phones at all... so I dont like paying for them, however with the BMW having an IPOD kit this makes sense to me now.

My IPOD Nano doesnt support charging via the BMW, so I have to take it out every few days which is a nightmare, but Touches do charge.... so I figured a phone would too and I can just pop it in when I am in the car, listen to music, charge my phone then off I go etc.

Anyway, I dunno what else is out there but I definately fancy the IPhone route...

It's so annoying that the 'norm' is becoming a 24m contract. That's such a long time to be contracted into a phone with technology moving on so quickly. I've paid over the odds (£5p/m) for the same package over 18 months instead of 24 just to give the flexibility to change earlier.

Have a look at this guide guys, its interesting to see what the true TCO is and its made me rethink a little.

I guess I have the advantage of being 'about to come out' of contract so I can do what I like, which is unlike a lot of these diehard Iphone lovers who are stuck with 3G's etc for at least another 6 months etc.

In summary though, it looks to me like an Iphone is at the very least still going to be 'very expensive' no matter what I do.

Matt...you don't have to do this. I'm guessing you've got the latest 4th Gen iPod Nano just like I have. The BMW iPod kits do not charge these new gen iPods but you can buy an adaptor which fixes the charging bit out perfectly. I've got it myself and the iPod never comes out of my car!

It's called a Scosche passPORT Car Charging Adapter, costs £20 and you can buy it from here...

Dude, the touch wont charge either. Firewire charging no longer on the phone.

You need a £10 adaptor to plug in between the pod and the charging setup to sort it. Stop going through needless agony!!

My 3G doesnt charge from the IPOD connector but the iPod Classic I keep in the glovebox does. I have heard rumours about an adaptor being required.

As far as Vn 3.0 goes - I've got the developer gold version (I think its the same as the final released 3.0) installed and its been as good (or as bad if you like) as the previous 2.x software.

The new 3GS is a lovely phone, my mate was round last night with his and I had a little play. Much, much faster phone to use, camera is alot higher quality.

I did say I wouldn't be upgrading but I have a feeling I may if they manage to jailbreak it.

Regarding phone costs I bought mine on PAYG and if I sell my current 3g one unlocked on ebay i should recoup a lot of the cost.

Thanks for the tips guys, I will look into that adapter.

My IPOD is Gen 4 as suggested and doesnt charge as confirmed so I will buy the adapter for that.

However, my missus 2nd Gen Touch DEFINATELY does charge - no shadow of a doubt about it - we drove all over France the other week and spent 24 hours in the car in one day, the IPOD came out fully charged everytime!

I guess I now have other options aside from the IPHONE but I still dont know jack about phones lol!!

I've had enough... so I've just swapped it for a new one (still the 'old' 3G version though). Gotta have some perks to the job huh!

Will see what 3.0 software on this one does to the battery life!

I took the plunge yesterday and bought a new 3gs. If anyone is after a jailbroken 3g let me know as mine is going up on the bay - 6 months old, running 3.0 has been kept in a case so is in great condition apart from the usual light scratches on the chrome bezel

My 32GB 3GS turns up on Monday, I had ordered 2 x 32GB and 2 x 16GB, but they have run out of the 16GB, so I have got 4 x 32GB on the same deal, on my business tariff, which works out them being free basically!

Looking forward to getting them, it has been a long time waiting, I'm coming from a Nokia 6301, on Orange, but really need MMS, for work, so just had to hold out.

you wont be disappointed. My only complaint about the 3g was it was slow to load up the apps the S has pretty much resolved this!
