Just Bought a 328i - Wind noise everywhere
Hi folks,
I just bought a new 2011 328i yesterday. It runs like I expected and really like it. However, when I go over 55, I have wind noise from everywhere of the car. Particularly I receive it from the driver door (close to the driver seat), front windshield and from moonroof. Since I don't have a passenger with me, I don't know if there are other places in the passenger side or from back that also has noise. I don't think this is normal. I'll definitely take it to dealer but before doing that, can anyone share what can be the reason for that? Thanks. |

Silly question, but did you make sure that all your windows and your sunroof are fully closed?

I actually get wind noise from the driver's side window in mine, too. I just haven't mentioned it to the dealer yet.
I imagine some noise is normal, but the issue does exist (particularly if search other threads here). The best answer we can give is to note the issue and take it to the dealer the next chance you have. Perhaps they can address it. |

Did you test drive it before you bought it and if so, is the noise more pronounced now than before?

This car was brought from another dealership. Therefore, I didn't test drive this. However, before buying it I test drove another one they had and I didn't notice any wind noise on that one.

It's a 2011, so I'm assuming it's either a demo, a lot model the dealership ordered and never sold or at the very least a low mileage trade in. You just got it. I see no reason for you to not go back to your dealership and mention it to your SA to at least take a look at. Maybe even give him a ride as a demonstration.
Edit; Ninja'd!

It may sound silly, but you might want to try some Gummi Pflege on the seals. Really does a great job making seals supple, even on new cars.

Did you look around the car making sure all doors have ALL their door seals? if the vehicle came from another lot or dealer you never know... I work at a dealership and if a customers car comes in and we don't have the part and they are a good customer (or brand new car) we often will "canabalize" a vehicle on our new car lot for a part... you never know the dealer could have robbed a door seal and "swapped" the car out without reinstalling it.. if its as loud as you say it is something could be MIA ... just a thought as things like this have def happened.

Chill guys, this is a normal and really common problem. Just a design flaw. The driver side mirror hits the wind in such a way that it makes this annoying whistling sound. I posted about it as well.
If you put your hand over the mirror cover you won't hear the noise. A simple remedy is to take some electrical tape and cover the little slit on the mirror cover, which is where the problem initially arises. However, it'll look sorta rice, lol. |
