Pitting Windshield

Is there anyway to get rid of the pitting in the windshield or it needs to be replaced?

I was thinking of getting the rainx thing that they said will fix pitting. I'm not sure if I wanna waste 15 bucks on it lol

Will do. I just looked at the rain-x website and I couldn't find any product that got rid of pitting.

It was a windshield repair kit sold at walmart, I heard that you can polish scratches and pitting out with a drill or polisher? Not sure how this would work but ill try putting wax or something on it and come back with any word of results . It won't be until Friday I can get back to you though, my car is in the shop

I think the clay will get stuck because its pits not bumps. Clay removes usually above surface stuff, not things that bump inward because it will glide on the top of the glass and once it hits the pits, it'll grab to the bumps and stick to it. If the glass wasn't pitted and it had something on top of the glass, it'll remove it. Sorry I'm horrible at explaining haha

I have heard you can buy 'toilet bowl/porcelain' polish at your local home depot and works great on water stained, scratched windscreens...

Thes best thing you can do is to replace it,save your time,energy,money spending on windshield kits and stay away from headache.

Polish and other kits will hide pits for time being and they will come back again

Glad u guys bring this subject. I would also like to get rid of the pits on my windshield. I would like to try some options before any replacement. Please keep us posted if anyone is succesful at this. Im planning to polish my car in the next few weeks maybe I will try on the windshield? Thanks

Well it's not that bad to were I have to replace it, but its annoying.

Windshield costs for our cars are no joke. Depending on what options you have as well for the car that can be affected by windshield.

Was quoted by dealership in the range of 1200-1700.

Yeah that I ve heard and its because the rain sensor crap. Its very expensive. So, really is worth it to do it under comprehensive insurace. my deductible is only 500.00 I will try polish it and see how it looks.

If polishing doesn't work, ima see what safelite says on the quote. Then ima try those people at a gas station. Using 20 bucks for better vision can't hurt ?

The rain sensors shouldnt be that big of a deal. All that you have to do is remove your sensor from old windshield and reinstall on new glass. This is otherwise just another glass installation. I have heavy pitting on my windshield, and just put sent an email to my glass guy, and ill bet he comes back with a price no more than $250.

like shit lol no really I thought I was the only one with this problem. Apparently it's somewhat common. My windshield is in perfect condition until you get up close and it has dozens of really tiny pits all over the place (i.e. looks like the results of a part after sandblasting it at low pressure) from sand, small rocks and other debris hitting the windshield over time at highway (and sometimes above) speed.

A pitted windshield usually has to be replaced. It can also be resurfaced with a glass cutting polish and DA but depending on the depth of the imperfections this could theoretically be unsafe.

Replacement WS costs a lot due to rain and light sensors, moulding, etc. Word is that a WS replacement on one of the HUD cars runs north of 2 grand.
