HD does spoil you and I do notice it now if I'm not watching something in HD.

I watched the highlights of the qualy on BBC in HD, and it was fine. It was a bit odd with q3 starting at 7mins to go, but I guess nothing happened for the first 3 mins.

Can't see why paying for sky would be worth it to be honest, but we'll see what the race is like tomorrow.

I'm in the 'paying for f1 is a national disgrace' camp btw.

Following other news at the moment, perhaps sky should be made cheaper in some parts of the country.....

fuck missing 10sec of q3 its only on for 10mins!

I can't believe how much better the picture looks in sky hd....the picture is far brighter and sharper than bbc's hd footage from last season.

I didn't like the idea of having to pay to watch f1 but to be honest Ive been well impressed with skys coverage so far.... and there won't be ad breaks during qly or race.

I don't actually have a problem paying a Tenner for a dedicated f1 channel with all the additional features and legends programs.

Bring on 6am tomorrow

I wouldn't mind paying a tenner either. But just checked Virgin again and all of a sudden now they want £29!!!! For the sky sports collection.

So almost 350 per year! F*CK that.

The BBC HD qualy was fine, and I'll watch the race tomorrow AM streamed.

I've been a HD customer since it came about, but also thought it was a bad move to bring F1 to Sky.

But after watching the SkySports F1 i am very impressed, great coverage picture and the SOUND is fantastic. Also the fact their is a dedicated channel means you get to see a lot more of the F1 story + some great old footage of classic cars and races.

Even if i had to pay a few £'s additionally, now i have seen it i probably would.

Mega I totally understand where your coming from with the costs involved with virgin media. I think that's just a bit cheeky of sky obviously virgin can't offer their customers it for a Tenner. Looks like its a ploy for sky to steal a few virgin customers back.

What I will say is that it is deffinatley worth every penny of a sky hd subscription. The camera footage and sound is stunning add to that the legends programs and team launches too. I had previously been very happy with the bbc's coverage but If you compare it to this weekend there's no way you'd go back to bbc to watch a race. Im not saying its perfect some of the presenting is a bit ropey but the quality and depth of coverage is class.

Hopefully virgin work out some sort of deal that compares with skys prices soon.

Isn't all the camera work provided by bernie tv anyway? So the footage of the race is the same footage / camera shots on bbc and sky?

Edit - looks like there is some extra stuff but the actual race footage is the same

It's only the pre-amble and the voices that are sky specific. The cameras are the cameras. It's all streamed from the FOA.

Yes but the way its transmitted to your Sky box is not the same on all channels. Different levels of compression and encoding mean quality varies, both in picture and sound. BBC HD is not the best.

Im not techno expert and I thought that hd was hd regardless of bbc or sky.
Watching the sky hd coverage of f1 is far superior to bbc hds coverage. Found out that this is caused by bbc reducing thery're bitrate on hd transmissions. Have a look on Google...

Yes it's only 720p on BBC as they offer the same hd stream to freeview etc. so sky can offer more there. But for the price difference are you surprised? 140 per year for all channels, the website, etc... on BBC versus skys astronomical monthly costs! For just sport!

I said exactly the same thing yesterday Mega! :-)

Back to the racing;

Sky F1 sound is glorious if you have a good 5.1 sounds set up.

LOL at the comments on that Georgie bird - i did mention i had second thoughts on her but to say she is mank is a little harsh and lets face it Mega, beggars can't be choosers eh kiddo!!!! And i stand by my comments on Natalie Pinkham and think she is pretty fit.
Hadn't realised that HD quality differs but it makes sense - i watched the race live on Virgin SD and enjoyed the race - but then watched the BBC HD highlights and the HD by comparison was so much nicer to look at. Im tempted to give Sky a call today and see what they might do in terms of getting my custom back again to see if i can more easily swallow the kill fee from Virgin. Either way i really enjoyed the race itself, great to see Button get the win, Hamilton was unlucky to lose the positions after the pit stop and Vettel lucky to benefit from the pace car scenario etc. Felt sorry for Grosjean and still wish Senna would either up his game or get luckier!
