At this point, that's probably the best resolution. It does look like too much clear and it can just be wets anded out. Stuff like this is not uncommon with body shops, they probably hoped you wouldn't catch it. Any remaining deformations can be taken out with heat. Body shop can fix that too.

Most body shops don't have a ton of margin built in at their labor rates so for defects like this, a lot won't take the extra time to fix it and most customers never notice.

Considering the bumper flexed the way it did and the paint did not crack, it shows how good the paint material is. Please install the bumper and take your car in to the body shop and have them color sand and polish that area. The fees should be no more than $100 to do. That is shooting high. Please ask the shop how many hours and how much per hour to have this repair. We charge 2 hours @ $42/hr here to do it. I will cover this fee for you. Sorry about that. Let me know."

At the price LTMW charges for their 1M bumper they have plenty of margin to fix this defect. I'd recommend taking it to a body shop of your choice and fix the bumper to your satisfaction. Then I'd go back to LTMW and request that they pay whatever the out of pocket costs are to fix this defect. $100 seems way low for what you'll probably pay to get this fixed. Not to mention the hassle of having to deal with this problem yourself.

Rob is an active poster on all BMW forums and a big asset to the community. If LTMW is smart they will admit their mistake and step up to make it right with Rob. Many will be watching to see how this turns out.

Good luck Rob!

If you do decide to get it fixed at the body shop. First get the quote and have him fork over the cost before you pay anything out of your pocket.

100? Okay..... 1/3 off which sounds okay to me.

He charges 42 a hour and 300 to paint a bumper which btw sounds good to me? How many hours does it take? 7? I think we have a guy whose dad owned a body shop for decades on the forum.

I greatly appreciate that man. I agree....They charge enough to fix it.

2000 and a run is unaacceptable. I work in a bOdy shop and will say this as someone who paints. The only way the painter didnt see that run was if he was painting w a blindfold on. Either he didnt mention it to his boss or boss tried to pass it off w out polishing. It takes several coats of clear so you are constantly looking at all areas while laying it down. An experienced painter can paint w out runs. We do it everyday. We charge around 300 a panel and at that price our customers would lose their mind over a run understandably so. Hope you get it sorted out soon. Thats alot of $ to spend and have an issue.

Agreed, I noticed it with in seconds. I had it sitting on the door step (baking in the sun) and the mail man asked if I noticed the run lol!

They should compensate you for your trouble at least on the shipping part. Its a 2k part its not a 50 dollar grill. I have bought a few e36s for that price.

The paint problem is bad, but the real issue to me is the shipping. At $2,000, there are no excuses. It should have been thoroughly and professionally padded and packed. Bubble wrap, foam, the works. Anything else just shows obvious cost cutting.

What does it say about a seller when they're not willing to lose $10 out of their margin on a $2,000 product to properly pack it?

Can you take more pics?

All I heard is great things from them. But I think people that rep the most parts from them get preferred service. Maybe you can just put a LTMW sticker over the section with the paint runs?

He'd be a saint to rep their sticker after this situation. I've only heard good things about them too, but they all seemed to be locals. With issues like this, it's very easy to fix if you're local. Not so easy if they shipped it.

I still can't believe that the run is right there on the fender arch and they didn't fix it or see it. If it was on the bottom of the bumper, I could understand it. I've never bought pre-painted parts for this reason. With a local shop, I can inspect the work and have them fix it before paying them.

Update:

Went to fit bumper and bumper was Not fitting "crash bumper" was hitting top of vents. Found a crack in facia. I called LTMW an they said to pack it up they will have freight service out today and they will build a new one. To me that is great service...can't ask for more than that, I just hope it doesn't take that long lol!

Can't ask for any less either. Hope they'll get it right the second time around. Businesses go through growing pains. Perhaps they put a junior on the case due to their budding business. Second time around they better put their best and most experienced on it. Good luck!

Not too surprised. LTMW can be hit or miss. For the most part, they're an install shop. When they do this kind of stuff, I would be weary. And they do wheels too. I've seen some horrible work on wheels as well. Next stop Son Tran.
