just curious what type of rims you guys have around here in pothole-city ? just cracked a front rim, looking for a new set, any recommendations are greatly appreciated!!

thanks man, yeah i may have to get a used set off the forums if i go the BBS route, no bends or anything? how long have them ?

I've had them for a year and no bends or anything

If you want to get 18s or 19s and don't want to deal with cracks or bends, don't get fake ones.

I'm running a set of VMR V710s, 19x8.5 ET35 with a 235/35/19 up front and the 19x9.5 ET33 with a 265/30/19 in the rear. They've held up perfectly.....actually better than the OEMs did. After six months on the originals....three were bent.

I'm running a set of staggered 19" Alpina B7 knockoffs, but my car's a DD and I rarely scoot to areas I don't know. That said, I could draw a map of every pothole from 495 exit 51A to 38B to I3 up til exit 10 Merrimack. I know, I've swerved around every one of 'em!

From personal experience. Doesn't matter what quality rim. If you hit a pot hole hard enough it's going to cause damage. Bent 2 volk wheels. But never had any issues with Rotas. Go figure lol.

Rim wise. I just buy what I can afford.

not to knock the guy who has the VMR's but VMR's are gravity cast which are the weakest kind of rims. most of the OEM rims are low pressure cast which are stronger. the strongest rims would be forged rims. they are most expensive though. like someone else said if you hit a big enough pot hole any rim will bend but the strength of the rim is significantly increased from gravity cast to low pressure cast to forged. hope that helps.

I think you should go down to 18s personally and you should be ok. Even if you get some legit forged 19's you might still get a problem if you hit a big enough pot hole with the tire height. You might not bend a wheel (a good wheel lol) but you might end up with bubbles on your tires.

18's don't look as pretty but with the roads out here I think its the best way to go.

Thanks for the suggestion! I was running Euro-Tek rims and I bent the one I recently cracked the 3rd week I had em, plus VMR’s aren’t the most expensive rim to replace, so if all hold up for long time and I crack one a year down the road no biggie.

I really like your rims! Just sooo classy! and I defiantly can draw a map of potholes from Peabody to Boston, just got unlucky and hit a pothole with a sticking up man-hole cover as well ☹.

Yeah this is true a big enough hole and it will break, so I may go OEM rims from a 745li.

Thanks man, yeah I knew they were not as strong compared to forged or pressure cast, but didn’t know they were weaker than OEM, thanks.

Yeah alls great!! Hope all is good with you as well. Yeah I was thinking about doing this as well, just sort of in love with 19’s , and I know its going to give me headaches in the future, but the hell with it, lol. But I think im going to Pick up some style 95 rims off of a 7series this weekend, ill post pics when I get em

I've been running Forgestar F14's in 18 since last year. Holding up pretty damn goood, just some curb rash

18's are the way to go for Boston, I personally would never go 19 just with the experiences I've had

So I mounted my 19s last week. 11 wide in the rear. Stretched tires. Just FYI for those that are in the city. For try to go over train tracks on comm ave at an angle! My rear lip caught a rail or something. Gonna inch long scratch with a small dent in the lip. 1 week in!

This is true man I actually ended up getting 19’s as I hope I don’t regret it, we will see though. Hey lets get that JB4 installed on your car man, unfortunately Sunday afternoon works better for me.

Yeah, I Love the concave of them, I just got them but I prob going to have to refinish them as the guy before me curb-rashed everyone of them.

Yeah I wish I saw this earlier bc I just did this yesterday thanks for the heads up though, you most likely can fix the lip though. Is it painted or a crome lip ?
