162 Style Wheel Question

Hey folks,

I recently bought a set of 162 style wheels that I like a lot. Problem is they were a staggered set (8" and 8.5") and I'm starting to think I'd rather be more square. Would there be any problems with putting two 8.5" 162s on the front?

Thanks,
Matt

No problem - I ran 18x8.5 Fronts/18x9.5 Rears on my 09 328iX before I switched out to the BMW 193M OEM staggered wheels.

So 8.5 on Front are fine...

I know the tires will mount on the wheels just fine, but since you have xdrive, I'm not sure if you will have any issues with total wheel+tire diameter between the front and back (assuming same tire profile dimension between front and read). By putting the 8.5" on the front, you are going to get a slightly taller tire (as compared to an 8"), and I'm not sure if that would cause any issues.

In the case of 1QuikWS6, although he ran 8.5 on the fronts, his rear was still staggered with 9.5 on the rears.

Just run the same size tires front and rear (which is what I assume you will be doing when going with a square setup) and you will be fine. No issues with the xdrive.

OP, does that mean you plan to buy another pair of 8.5" width 162 wheels so you have the square setup?

Definitely thinking about it. Or swap my 8 inch ones for them.

four rear 162s will look great! Ive wanted to do that with pretty much all bmw staggered setups. the 8.5 with an et of 37 will fit without issue. Id even recommend a 12mm spacer up front and 15mm out back to push them flush. I have 18x8.5 et 28/25 on my car with 235/40/18. depending on how low you are, this will work well for you.
