Cleaning e92

the 335d needs a wash, but its blazing sunshine out there..

i remember once upon a time someone told me that 'you must never wash a car in sunlight'

what reasons is this for and is it true?

thanks

Especially with a black car.
If I wash my wifes car (Black 120d) in sunlight, I need to do it one panel at a time and then chamois that panel straight away.

If you dont the water marks look absolutely horrible - Uggh!!!

Isn't it also because it damages the paint because the water acts like a tiny magnifying glass? Or did I make that up ?

not heard of that one i just thought it was because of the water marks.

If you're really slow the soap can try on the car as well, that can be a pain to remove.

It will stop being all cuddly and fluffy and turn into a gremlin.

You must never feed it after midnight either.

Yes - you made that up.

You must never wash your car while wearing corduroy trousers though because they can rub together creating a static build up that can ultimately remove all of the paint from you car.

This seemed like sound advice:

"I want to throw eggs at cars on Halloween. Can this cause damage?

Yes. For starters, the car owners might gang up and damage you for doing it."

Someone did that to my car (sapphire black) and although the egg just cracked when I cleaned it off the next day there were scratches. How can an egg scratch my paint. Hate sapphire black. That's why I've ordered new car in it. Love-hate.

If I take a sledge hammer to car will that leave swirl marks or damage the paintwork? Got to love that site.

That tiny magnifying thing was debunked. The end result was that the water would always evaporate before any damage was done. The reason you don't wash in sun is waterspots.

Oh, fwiw, an egg will scratch any color of paint, it normally leaves a small impact crater which is virtually impossible to remove outside a repaint.
