Good place to get a half shaft aka output shaft.(Horror story)
So, it's my turn for a minor horror story about snapping your rear axle...
On a wonderful night(just like tonight), i was doing some VBox testing with my new NT05s, on a street far far away from people and traffic... Put in a few runs, but wasn't satisfied with the results as i could barely catch traction(even on mild 2nd gear launches, only putting out 18psi). Best time of the night was a measly 4 second 0-60. I decided to burn some rubber in hopes for some better traction. The rest is history Instead of braking traction, i broke my left half shaft. But it's not all bad news! 20 second after the "BOOM!", an officer of the law rolls up and asks if i was doing illegal street racing! Being an upstanding citizen I had informed him that as a matter of fact no, i was not racing, because to race you need to have 2 vehicles After a thorough background check, and a walk around my car, the officer of the law had given up, and went on his way wishing me a very "sincere" good night. So, after doing a little math, i realized that my tooth picks of half shafts had actually saved me quite a bit of money! If I was to get pulled over, i'm sure it would have cost quite a bit more than a few hundred bucks... Totally forgot why i was making this thread... What's the best place to get my hands on a left half shaft for an AT e92? Having a hard time finding one online. Thank You! Last edited by Sick335; 03-19-2013 at 01:26 AM.. |

This seems to be the part number^. The cheapest one i've found online is $400. I believe i have heard members getting used ones for pennies on the dollar tho. |

I would email them to make sure they have it in stock though. There is also http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335...vetrain/Axles/ |

New halfshaft as opposed to a massive ticket=lemonade out of lemons
I suspect we'll be seeing many more wrecked half shafts as more people switch to RBs and other upgraded turbos.

find one at a junkyard man, wayyyy cheaper. no need for a new one from a dealer.
I picked up a halfshaft for less than $100. quick search for you shows you can get them for $100 if you can find one near you. http://car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi

Well the mechanic needs to make some profit too, so he probably up charged a bit for his time etc...but yah, super good deal. I paid about $800 because I couldn't source a used 6MT halfshaft.

Mechanic is a good friend of mine, so he's only charging me $100 for the install that will probably take a few hours, but i'm also gonna help with it. You can get brand new shafts online for about 400$-450$
