Hi guys...

I am planning on purchasing a new 2008 328i Sedan in Los Angeles, California. This is going to be my first BMW.

They have one car in stock that I like. The features are:

Jet Black $0
Black Dakota Leather $0
Dark Burl Walnut wood trim $0
Premium Package $3,350
Sport Package $1,700
Sports leather steering wheel with paddle shifters $100
STEPTRONIC automatic transmission $1,325
iPod and USB adapter $400
Xenon headlights $800
Destination & Handling: $825
Total MSRP as Built $41,200


The dealer is quoting a price of $37,600. I feel since the 2009 models are out this price is high. What price should I be looking at? Also what are the quotes other forums members have received for a similar config.

Would it be worth spending extra and going for a 335i? I am not a racing person.

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

You should be paying invoice.

As for whether you want a 335i vs. 328i, that's completely up to you. Have you driven both? Buy whatever makes you the happiest.

well... since 2009 cars are here, I was trying to aim for 35k. Else it would make more sense to just go with a 2009 model.

Good find - I own a similarly equipped 328xi, so other than Comfort Access and Logic 7, the car is optioned with just about everything one could want.

That said, I would definitely test drive the 335, for no other reason then to eliminate any lingering doubts post-purchase. I test drove both back to back on two different occasions, and the 328 is a better fit for my location, driving style and future plans.

Regarding costs, recognize that the 09s are much more expensive than the 08s, from base to options. Furthermore, if you decide to lease instead of finance or outright cash, you will be in for a rude surprise post-Labor Day regarding MF and residuals.

Long debate short:

I drove a 328i for a week. It drives like a dream. Smooth power delivery, smooth everything, but I did notice a bit of acceleration lag.

I had an extended test drive in 335i. It has a whole lot more attitude. When you mash the pedal, it does its thing.

All things considered, you can't go wrong with either choice. It's all in what you want from the car.

If you're lucky you might be able to get it a little below invoice assuming the car is on the dealers lot b/c I believe there is no more 2008 production.

well guys... since I haven't been able to sell my car I guess I am going to miss out on the 0.9% APR. I was planning on going for 2008 model just because of the 0.9% APR. I thought I could make up for the depreciation that way. (1) Does anyone know if they would extend the 0.9% APR to the end of September? They still have a lot of 2008 models in stock.

I really like the response of the 335i... i mean it was amazing. Loved the way the brakes response too. The 328i with sports drive also give a good pickup. I would have gone for the 335i but the cost and mileage is what makes me stick with a 328i. I love power, but honestly with the crowded freeways in CA its hard to really use it that much.

A few more questions...
(2) Also when would the 2009 models arrive at the dealerships?
(3) How much depreciation would I be looking at going for the 2008 instead of 2009? By my calculations and using KBB you loose around $5000 each year on a 328i with 10000 miles a year.

I think that's a great buy.. I bought one last month for the same options exception of the xenon lights and paid 37,200. Plus ask for the floor matts and alarm if you can...Although I like the 335i I sat down and thought about how often will I bee using the power. Im done street racing and the 328 offers enough power to use around the streets in LA. Just consider your driving style and if you think you will utilize the power of 335 go with it...For my use 328i has been great for me...
