E92 Coupe..Sooner than we think
Yesterday my family and I called up my local dealer asking when the new BMW 3 series coupe would be out because I wanted to put a deposit on a 330ci. The guy said april 2006 as a 2007 model. He seemed really dead set on that month. I told him I needed a car around then and he said that it should be out by then and not to worry. He also said that if it wasn't the deposit would go to a a four door if I wanted to. He said he has seen pictures and that its absolutely stunning, and that the headlights and the taighlights are different than the four door. I asked about the hardtop convertible and he said it will arrive either late '06 or early '07 coinciding with changes to the three series engine lineup. He said that BMW wants to move the 3 series more upscale to directly compete with the new Audi A5 that is comming out, and the new CLK that is due for '08.Maybe they also want to do this to make room for the 1 series..Not sure I did not ask him about that. He also said that he can only take orders for a coupe and not the trim yet. I wonder what that means... possibly new engines for next years model or maybe just to early. I'm really excited to get my 2 door coupe. The guy said he cannot confirm anything, just that the 3 series coupe is altered from the 4 door and also that it should be here in april, at the latest june.

It might be out by then in Europe, but I would not expect it then in the U.S. more like Sept.

I popped by to visit my dealer on Monday morning and he was gone to the other dealership in my city (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) to have a meeting. I wonder if this was not maybe an informational session about this?? Maybe I should grill him!

this is confusing so the Sedans and Touring first, then the coupes 18 months later? the coupe would mean the 2006 330Ci right? so in 06 the coupes look the same as the 05's right?
so E90 means which car? Sorry for the questions new to the bimmer scene |

USA will probably call the new shape coupe a 2007 model E90 = Sedan E91= Touring E92= Coupe E93= Cabrio The E46 is the previous shape ( coupe still made for a short while ) What you ordered is a 2006 E46 330Ci which will stop production in a few months and be replaced by the E92 around June

In the past most new vehicles release around September in time for the new year. This is changing in the industry with manufacturers trying to beat their competitors to the market. The e90 (new sedan) was released approx 6 months early in April '05 as a 2006 model. If the coupe is released on a normal schedule (Sept '06) it will follow about 18 months after the sedan. The coupe will be a 2007 model. |

so the what does the 2006 330Ci look like?
Im going to be test driving it on monday. Im thinking that the 2006 is the last year for the 330Ci that look like the 2005's and 2004's. And the new 2007's are going to look like the new sedans. Am i right? |

Seems optimistically early. No mention of showing the cars at any of the upcoming major auto shows in Europe or US. Will probably debut at a European show in fall 2006. Doubt coupe before fall 2006 in US, maybe even later. I figure coupe/cabrio around spring/summer 2007; that's what they've said all along.
